Common Essay Writing Mistakes a Student Should Avoid One of the best ways to improve your writing is to look at your work with a critical eye. Doing so can help you self-correct what might otherwise be unsightly write my essay when you write an essay . But it also helps to have a few simple rules in mind for what to consider as a mistake and what is more subjective. For example, when I talk about spelling, grammar, and punctuation–which are sometimes referred to together as “the mechanics”–I’m assuming that the reader has good English skills already. If you need some help improving those areas, try taking one of my popular online classes on basic grammar or master proofreading today! #1: Don’t tell us how smart/funny/unique your topic is. “My paper delves into the fascinating subject of [insert subject here]. I will examine our current understanding of this field and present a series of hypotheses that could lead us to new discoveries in the future.” How my students would write it: “My essay talks about how awesome [subject] is! When you read this paper, your mind will be blown!” If there’s nothing else for which to give your readers credit, at least don’t demoralize them before they’ve even begun reading what you have to essay writer! We all like learning about exciting topics, but we’d rather learn about it from someone who doesn’t feel obligated to let us know the topic is exciting. Similarly, if you genuinely think your topic is hilarious, then feel free to mention that–but just once or twice. #2: Don’t spend a whole sentence saying nothing. “On the one hand…” How my students would write it: “[Subject] is cool! [Subject] is awesome! [Subject] is super fun and has lots of great toys! On the other hand…nothing.” Sometimes we can all be a little too verbose, especially when you get stuck in the trap of presenting mini-argument after mini-argument within a single essay writing service. Try to break those points up instead by stating them briefly and moving on to the next idea more quickly . If there are two main ideas in your essay, try to give each at least one respectable-sized sentence (i.e., at least five-ish words) so that each main idea has some real impact in a reader’s attention span; you can’t expect anyone to follow your references if they have no idea what you’re talking about from one sentence to the next! #3: Show, don’t tell us why we should care What my students would write: “What are the most important tools?” How I would rewrite it: “The most important tools for understanding [subject] are good literature, statistics and field observations–these tools help paint a richer picture of how [subject] works.” One mistake my students sometimes make is getting overly general or vague right out of the gate. For example, if you said something like, “In my paper I will describe what makes a great teacher,” that’s not very interesting. A better version would be something like, “In my opinion, the best teachers are those who take the time to get to know each of their students both as individuals and learners. In addition to teaching us relevant knowledge, they also challenge us by assigning projects and extra readings that make learning more fun.” #4: Don’t waste our time on irrelevant details Sometimes we miss the forest for the trees. One student wrote about how she climbed Mount Everest with no write my paper supply–and then went on for two pages describing her long journey up there (but neglected to mention what she found at the top). The point is: if your essay is going to be more than, say, 1000 words–and especially if it’s going to be more like 2000 or 1500+ words–then your essay needs a point! It can’t just have a bunch of facts strung together without any reason for us to care. Giving us the sound bites that persuade us to care is what makes an essay good (see next example). #5: Focus on telling your story, not spewing information What my students would write: “I climbed Mount Everest in 1999 and was there with no oxygen supply.” How I would rewrite it: “At 10 A.M., I began my journey up Antarctica’s Mount Everest. Seven hours later, I had hiked over three miles through impossible terrain in -60 degree weather. In addition to the snow, the winds were so strong that I frequently got knocked off my feet and had to stop and dig myself out of each new avalanche.” #6: Make your point(s) clearly Be concise . Don’t make your readers slog through a bunch of unnecessary text just to get at one good point. For paper writing service, if you have ten things you’d like to say about why [subject] is interesting, try ordering them logically so they build on each other until you feel justified in ending with statement #10. It’s important not only that we understand what you’re saying, but also how it fits together into a greater whole–giving us an idea of where your essay is coming from and where it stands.
