Introduction
On the planet, there are five different oceans. These oceans surround all the continents in the world and have many different creatures living in them. Throughout this book you will learn the ocean’s names, location, how big they are, and fun facts about them!

The Pacific Ocean

The Pacific Ocean is the largest of the world’s oceans.

Location: Pacific Ocean the oldest of all oceans and the deepest of all the bodies of water. Mariana Trench is located in the western pacific ocean. Just 124 miles east of the Mariana Trench is our deepest natural point in the World called the Mariana Islands. The deepest depth is know to be 36,070 feet and in 10,994 metres.

Fun fact: Pacific Ocean Temperatures or conditions are split: cold in east, and warmer in west. In Oregon the body of water is average 54 degrees.

The Atlantic Ocean

The Atlantic Ocean is the world’s richest fishing waters.

Location: Atlantic Ocean boards North America, Africa, South America, and Europe. This Ocean is the second largest of our five oceans and home of the largest islands in the world. The Atlantic Ocean covers 1/5 of the earths surface and 29% of the waters surface area.

Interesting Facts: The Atlantic Ocean formed during the Jurassic Period. The first ocean to ever be crossed by an airplane.

The Atlantic Ocean ranks the second for the most dangerous ocean waters in the world. This ocean water is usually affected by coastal winds, temperature of the water surface currents maps.
The Indian Ocean

Until the mid 1800s the Indian Ocean was called the Eastern Oceans.

Location: Indian Ocean is located between Africa and Austral-Asia and the Southern Ocean. is the third largest of our oceans and covers a fifth ( 20%) of our earths surface

Fun Fact: The Indian Ocean is around 5.5 times the size of United States and is a warm body of water depending on the Ocean Currents of the Equator to help stabilize the temperatures.

The Southern Ocean

The Southern Ocean also known as the antarctic area.

Location: The Antarctic ocean is the smallest of our oceans and the fourth largest and is full of wildlife and mountains of ice lastly throughout the year. It is located surrounding Antarctic.

Fun Fact: The depth of The Antarctic Ocean is 23,740′ in depth. The Southern Ocean also known as the Antarctic Area: 7.849 million mi².

The Arctic Ocean

The Arctic Ocean gets its name from the word ‘arktos’ which means ‘bear’ in Greek.

Location: The Arctic Ocean is located in the northern hemisphere north of 60 degrees North latitude and borders the Eurasian and North American continents and surrounds Greenland and several islands.

Fun Fact: Icebergs and ice packs will be encountered in the Arctic during any season, but the oceans surface will be covered by ice during June to October.

The Arctic Ocean is the smallest ocean on earth and covers less than 3% of the earth’s surface. Much of the ocean is covered by ice, however the thickness of the ice varies depending on the season.
