Let’s go on a safari to the savanna! The savanna is a biome and can be found in Africa. There are many animals there to discover!
The first animal on our savanna safari adventure is a zebra! Zebras have black and white strips, and are part of the same family as horses, called the equine family! They eat the plants and grasses in the area. Do you think the zebra looks similar to a horse you would see on a farm?
Another animal that lives in the savanna is the cheetah. Cheetahs are large wild cats that have lots of spots. They can run super fast! They are carnivores and hunt for their food.
Next on our safari is the elephant. Elephants are big and strong, and also known for being very smart. They have big ears and long trunks, which can be used to help them eat their diet of several types of plants.
Have you noticed there haven’t been any birds yet? Don’t worry, the ostrich is up next! Even though ostriches are birds, they aren’t able to fly because they’re so heavy. Ostriches are tall with long necks, and can run very fast.
The last animal up on our safari adventure on the savanna is the giraffe! Giraffes are very tall animals with long tongues that they use to grab their food off of the very tops of trees. Their necks that let them reach that high can measure up to 6 feet long!
That’s it for our safari on the savanna! There are several more animals living here that you can learn about too.
