Hi! My name is Mallory and I’m a water molecule. Today I’m going to tell you about my journey through the water cycle. Make sure to look for the words condense/condensation, evaporate/evaporation, gravity, heat energy, flow, transpiration, and respiration. Let’s get started!

My journey started in the ocean, the Atlantic Ocean to be specific. There are A TON of us water molecules in the ocean. Too many to count!

One day though, I was really close to the surface and the heat energy from the sun made me evaporate! I traveled through the sky, all the way up to the clouds.

I condensed into a raindrop with some of my friends and gravity pulled us down. Humans call it “rain”, but I call it “fun”! You start in the clouds and you go all the way down. We ended up in Lake Itasca. It’s a pretty nice lake as lakes go, so I enjoyed my stay there.

After floating around in the lake for a while, I started downstream and flowed into the Mississippi River. I kept floating in the river until a deer came up and drank the water. I didn’t know what was happening at the time, but soon enough, I was inside of a deer!

Then something super cool called respiration happened. The deer breathed, and water vapor (made of water molecules-including me!) from its lungs went into the air. Back to the clouds I go!

It took 3-4 days, but I condensed into a raindrop again, and the fun happened all over again! It started raining, and gravity pulled me down, except this time, I landed in the Canadian soil. I stayed there for a while till I reached the roots of a pine tree and another super cool process called transpiration happened! I went in through the roots, traveled up to the leaves, and went out through the pores on the bottom of the leaves.

After that, I went up to the clouds… again! For the last time in my journey, I condensed into a raindrop with other molecules and fell down to the ground because of gravity.

15

This time, my raindrop landed on a glacier in Alaska. I had never been to Alaska, so it was a new experience. Let me tell you, it’s beautiful! Once I landed, I froze and became a part of the glacier.

Now, of course, we all know about global warming, and how it’s melting the glaciers. The glacier started melting! I don’t know how it happened exactly, but poof, I was in a puddle on the ground. Plain old groundwater, how boring!

18

And that is where my journey ends. It’s been a crazy ride, let me tell you!

See you next time!!!
