Chutzpah from you – Dare to

You saw an ad.
You really want this managing/senior position.
You went over the requirements and it turns out that you don’t  have the right academic degree.
You don’t have enough experience, or you lack of knowledge on some of the required topics.
And you’re also not really expert in giving presentations as specified.
You know that it would be a Chutzpah from you (cheeky) to apply for this position.
2

But you have a strong will!

This job enchants you!

You have hunger in your eyes!

You have motivation!

You are ready to learn anything.

You are ready to submerge yourself totally.

3
So, to apply or not to apply for a senior position when you don’t have all the ‘necessary’ requirements?
Is this situation familiar to you?
Have you ever been in such a situation?
And if you were, then what would you choose to do?
To apply or not ?
My advice is,
certainly apply!
(Unless these are subjects that require a specific degree and specialization like in in medicine / accounting, engineering, etc.)

I believe in personal abilities, potential, motivation, character – those things that can’t be learned. Either you have them, or you don’t have.                               Everything else can be learned.                                                           Knowledge and experience are acquired. The question is what you know to do above and beyond this knowledge.
Those are our personal qualities that make the difference between two people who have completed the same degree and are competing for the same role. But what is their personal input added to the knowledge and thanks to that they can manage to do the tiebreaker.
Remember: Those who dare, break equality!

And for those who want to read about a case that actually happened to me, please continue reading.
In my third career I worked as an independent consulting,  development and recruitment officer. I was asked by one of the CEOs to search for a Chief Operating Officer for his company.
The job description required multidisciplinary requirements as well as a degree of PhD.
Among the resumes I received was one of a young manager who didn’t have even half of the required criteria and only a master’s degree. But the few sentences that he added and wrote about himself and his abilities did the “work”.
6
I met him. I liked him even though he was half an hour late for the interview (with the usual excuse about the traffic). I didn’t let this matter interrupting the interview. During the next 20 minutes, a charismatic figure of a manager, with fire in his eyes and feet on the ground, motivation, good analytical ability, professional understanding, and management skills presented himself. He even had a sense of humor. The fact that he was a commander in a combat unit added to his ‘points’. I felt that this young guy would go far.
That evening I asked the CEO of the company to meet my chosen candidate, before leaving abroad. I was asked, what is the rush, since he was about to fly that evening to some convention.
7
The CEO asked me to send him the resume of the guy .
I told him “I am sending the candidate to meet you in the airport, along with his resume.
After a few hours, the CEO informed me that he would hire him.
“The young manager will begin working as acting VP and at the end of the year if he proves himself, he will receive the VP position”, the CEO told me as he boarded his flight.
After eight years of amazing work, this young executive became the successful CEO of the same company.
