To the Educator

This book will aid in students learning about famous artists and their works. Students will learn about 5 artists: Claude Monet, Andy Warhol, Frida Kahlo, Jackson Pollock, and Yayoi Kusama. Aimed at an upper elementary classroom, this book also includes discussion questions, and a follow up activity.

 

Learning Objectives

*Students will be able to identify the artists and famous art work created by each artist

*Have a greater understanding of different art types including self-portraits, sculptures, and the drip technique

*Students will be able to recreate these famous pieces of artwork as a followup activity

Andy Warhol

& Campbells Soup

 

Andy Warhol is known for his white hair and all black outfits, but is also known for his impact on Pop Art. Warhol used bright colors and a process called “Silk Screening” to make his art.

 

Andy Warhol’s most famous artworks include his prints of Campbells soup cans and bright prints of celebrities like Marilyn Monroe

Frida Kahlo

& Self Portraits

Jackson Pollock

& the drip technique

 

Jackson Pollock is an artist known for the ‘drip’ technique. Pollock would stand over large canvas on the floor and drip lines of paint around the canvas. The paint would drip down in different patterns making it look like a mess! This type of art is known as abstract expressionist.

Follow Up Assignment

After looking at this ebook, students will have the ability to recreate these pieces of art! Students can create their own self portraits, drip/splatter painting, or draw their own landscape like Monet!
