“Hey you, egg. Next egg over. Wake up.”

“Shhhshhhh. Everybody’s sleeping. You’ll wake up the whole incubator.”

“Good. There’s something I want you to see.”

3

“What is there to see? Eggs? More eggs? We’ll all be hatching soon. Get some sleep.”

“Look down the row a bit. There, on the left. That egg.”

“It’s dark in here. Which egg?”

“The fourth one down.”

4

“What about it?”

“It’s……different.”

“How different can it be? A giraffe reading a geography book? It’s an egg. We’re eggs. This is an incubator for eggs.”

5

“I’ll tell you what’s different. We’re white. That egg is b-r-o-w-n.”

“B-r-o-w-n? Brown? Wait a minute. Yes, now I see. Hey you, other eggs, wake up!”

6

“Shhhhhh. We’re sleeping. You’ll wake up the entire incubator.”

“Good. Look over there. A brown egg.”

“Brown? As in the color brown?”

“I see it too. Yes, definitely brownish.”

7

“Oh no. It’s right next to me. Yikes! A brown egg!”

“Hey you, egg! Wake up!”

“What? What’s all the fuss?”

8

“You’re different.”

“How am I different? I’m an egg. I’m here in the incubator, waiting to hatch, just like all you other eggs.”

“But you’re NOT just like all us other eggs. You’re different. We’re white. You’re brown. You’re BROWN!”

9

“Oh, you mean my shell is brown. It’s no big deal. Some eggs have white shells. Some have brown shells. Now let’s get some sleep. We’ll all be hatching soon. Good night.”

“BROWN EGG! BROWN EGG! YOU’RE NOTHING BUT A BROWN EGG!”

“Hey you, egg. Next egg over. There’s something I want you to see.”

“Again? What’s there to see? Another brown egg?”

“You won’t believe it.”

13

“Believe what?”

“The brown egg is hatching.”

“So what? That’s what eggs do.”

“Guess what’s coming out?”

14

“I have no idea. A crocodile? A rhino? An alien?”

“A chick.”

“So what?”

“The chick is y-e-l-l-o-w. The chick is YELLOW.”

15

“Now I see it. Hey, you eggs, wake up.”

“Shhhhhh. We’re trying to hatch here.”

“You have to see this. The brown egg is hatching. It’s a yellow chick!”

16

“You’ve got to be kidding. A yellow chick?”

“Help! It’s right next to me. Yikes! A yellow chick.”

“YELLOW CHICK! YELLOW CHICK! YOU’RE NOTHING BUT A YELLOW CHICK!”
