IORDANIA
Jordan is a small and charming country in the Middle East, bordering Syria and Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Israel. The name of this Muslim country has deep biblical roots, from the name of the Jordan River where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. It is a land endowed with hundreds of years of world history, where Alexander the Great founded the city of Jerash and where Petra was built, one of the 7 wonders of the world.
The ancient fortress of Petra was carved into a canyon by the Namibian people, being a veritable fortress of unconquerability. Temples dug directly into the rock are a world-famous treasure, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985.
Amman is the capital of Jordan, built on 7 hills, like Ancient Rome, now stretches over more than 20 hills, being a historic city, covered in white stone houses, preserving various vestiges of the city’s millennial history, but also modern, flanked by skyscrapers in the new area.
The Wadi Rum Desert, also known as the Valley of the Moon, is the most famous desert area in the world due to the red sand between which there are rocks, in a spectacular landscape.
The Dead Sea is the deepest place on Earth, located 424 meters below the level of the planet’s ocean. The salinity in this area is 34%, so you simply float in the water, whatever you do. The mud and mineral waters of the Dead Sea are known for their therapeutic and cosmetic properties, so the spa and wellness centers in the area are among the most established in the world.
Aqaba is the only port in Jordan and the most sought-after tourist resort in the country, competing with exclusive destinations in the United Arab Emirates. From the port of Aqaba you can see the city of Eliat in Israel, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
In Madaba there is only one Christian church, dedicated to Saint George, which houses one of the treasures of history, a map of the Holy Land. This is believed to be the oldest map of the Holy Land, from the sixth century, being worked in the form of a mosaic.
The predominant religion in Jordan is Suuni Islam. But there is also a Christian minority.
Men’s dress code in Jordan
Long pants are essential in the city, country and desert, regardless of the weather – lightly clean and respectable cotton, denim or cloth in simple colors. A buttoned shirt wrapped in pants conveys a stronger message about the value of cultural sensitivity.
Women’s dress code
HIJAB-is the wave they use to cover their heads. It can be of different sizes from one or more pieces (max3), the colors being pastel, always in matching with the rest of the clothes. It is of different sizes covering (according to preferences) from the head, to the shoulders and chest. HIJAB AL-AMEERA-is worn especially by pupils and students, giving a note of elegance but also of modesty at the same time. It has a slightly more complicated way of attachment because it consists of two pieces: the first piece resembles a cylindrical tube that is simply pulled on the head to hold the hair tight, over it is placed the second piece usually having the shape of a trapezoid and the role of covering the neck, the latter being fastened with needles for safety.
