The high levels of pollution in the air, the water and the soil are a problem for agriculture, because they contaminate fruit and vegetables.
However, the greatest problem is that of chemical fertilizers, which are used to make plants grow faster, and pesticides, which kill insects and dangerous parasites. These chemical substances are poisonous and they can be toxic for humans and the enviroment.
Growing vegetables in big quantities can also produce a lot of CO2, because they have to be transported in places that are very far.
In order to reduce the use of chemicals we should grow our own vegetables in the garden of our house or in a communal garden.
Growing only a small quantity of vegetables is better because we can look after them more carefully and we can use less chemicals.
We can also avoid wasting water, because we can water the plants only when they need it.
Vegetables grown locally are always fresh and nothing is wasted.
Another solution to the pollution problems caused by agriculture is the promotion of organic farming. This type of agriculture is better for the enviroment because it is sustainable.
It is more expensive because there are more farmers and less machines and chemicals, but the result is better for our body and for the Earth.
