Mr. Cattanzara was born and raised in Italy, in a poor neighborhood in Rome. He was raised in a house with seven younger siblings. His mother was busy raising her children, and his father was working from morning till night to support and take care of the family.

As a child, Mr. Cattanzara was wandering in the neighborhood at nights to escape reality and to be alone. He had to leave school at a very young age so that he could help his mother at home, raising the children.

Because of financial problems and the fact that they were poor, he couldn’t afford to go to university, and he had to give up his dream, becming a famous writer.

He tried to look for many jobs in Italy, but no one hired him because he didn’t finish school. He gave up very quickly and he didn’t work hard enough. He decided that if he wants to have a successful life, he should leave his life in Italy, move to New York, try to fulfill the American dream and build a new life.

Mr. Cattanzara arrived at New York by ship, where he met his wife and was sure that a better life was going to start. Even in New York, no place hired him because he didn’t know English well enough. He didn’t agree to start with simple jobs and wanted only prestigious ones.

He was really depressed because even when he moved to a new place his life wasn’t getting better. Things went downhill – he got into big debts and went back to his wandering habits like he used to in Italy, only this time instead of clearing his mind, he just wanted to forget about his troubles, and he started drinking

When he met George, he saw in him his younger self – a little boy with dreams who wasn’t willing to work hard enough. He told George that he should change his way of achieving his goals and that he should work hard and to never give up. Mr. Cattanzara didn’t want George to end up like him, so he told him to not do what he did.
