Contrary to popular belief, environmental professions do not only recruit scientific profiles. And only a minority, 1%, is related to nature. . Three-quarters of the jobs are in fact in water and waste treatment and management because this is a major cause of global warming. The two major companies in the sector (Véolia and Suez) are constantly recruiting young graduates, technicians or engineers, for positions all over the world.

First of all I started my studies in an engineering school, but after 5 years of study I managed to get into one of the big ocean protection companies called Veolia.
Then I’ll explain a little bit about my job because I’ve been in Veolia for 10 years.

Me and some friends from Australia created a machine we called Seabin, an automated garbage can that collects garbage, debris, oil, fuel and detergents floating, running continuously. It can be placed in harbors, marinas and other commercial ports.

I will explain you more in detail, the Seabin could be a revolution in terms of ecology and cleaning of the ocean (especially at the technical level). It would help purge the oceans of man-made pollution with healthier marine life and much less pollution. Seabin’s project contributes to creating a better way of life for all living things. The Seabin is designed for floating docks in the water of marinas, private pontoons, inland waterways, rivers, lakes, harbors, ports and yacht clubs.

Garbage is caught in the net. The water is then sucked to the bottom of the garbage can by the water pump, where an oil/water separator can be installed, and the clean water is returned to the port. The waste will be stored in the container until it is changed. This process is constant, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

This net is made of natural fiber. Thinner than a thick curtain. When the curtain is full or close to being full, a marina employee will simply have to change the bag containing the caught garbage.

to conclude I think that the seabin will change the seafaring ways and also everyone because marinas, ports and yacht clubs are the ideal place to start helping to clean our oceans because they are very polluted places.
