THEY SHUT ME UP IN PROSE

Males and females have to behave, present, speak, dress according to a given set of ideas because every society and culture has gender role expectations. Gender stereotypes can affect people since they can cause unequal and unfair treatment, besides they don’t allow people to express themselves and their emotions. Even if gender equality is a fundamental human right, women and girls around the world can’t fully experience equal rights and fundamental freedoms. Thus let’s turn our gaze to those women who refuse to be ‘shut’ in unfair women’s roles and decide to express their potential as change-agents in the arts, education, STEM, economy, sports and society. The title of the project takes inspiration from a line written by the American poet Emily Dickinson.
