Due to covid-19, a student in my project, Zehra interviewed local journalist Tuncay Hacifettahoğlu. Just before the meeting, Zehra and her friends from the project were getting ready by preparing questions that she asked the journalist. After the interview, she shared all the information received from the journalist with her colleagues from the project.
Here are his words to you;

One of my questions was, ” What should you consider when writing or composing a message? “And he replied,” Reality! The most important thing is to take acount. You should also take care of them, so with a single concern for personal interests. ”Then, I gave one of my friends on the project, Elif’s question; ” How do you create headlines? “And he replied,” When I create them, I pay attention to the relationship between the content of the messages and them, and they should also attract the attention of readers . ” Now is the time to ask Cayda; “ What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever encountered while composing a message? “And he replied”I have created a lot of messages and it seems to me that the most difficult thing is to say something to the relatives of the people involved in these accidents. “When I asked if he wanted to add anything else, he added that being a journalist is not easy. and I want people to prefer this job more. ”

The local magazine “Prządki” was established in  2003 and  is published monthly. Its name comes from the “Prządki” nature reserve, formed of rocks in the shape of girls who used to be spinners in the area of Korczyna (according to legend). In each issue of the magazine we can find useful and interesting information about the inhabitants of our commune, including the surrounding smaller towns. We read about new buildings, roads and bridges, and the unveiling of important monuments. You can find articles about students who have achieved sports or scientific success. The inhabitants of the Korczyna Commune will get acquainted with the budget and expenses in their area. Tourists can find some tips and great descriptions of hiking trails and nature parks. Our materials from various projects are also printed there.

But the interview was with a professional journalist – temporarily not working in this profession, but with a diploma and experience. The students prepared the interview questions and one of them conducted an online interview. Then all students had the opportunity to watch it.

Because of the Covid 19 situation, my students chose to talk with a famous person from our town. Stanko Grčić is the grandfather of one of my students. He was a journalist and a politician in the past. They chose to talk about the vine. In our country, people have a tradition to celebrate vine in all steps of the preparation during the year and in November we have a special day, St. Martin’s Day. That day people celebrate the birth of the vine.

There aren’t local active newspapers in our town. We want to show you some information about the first newspaper after the Communist regime in Albania.

The first steps of the independent press transformation of the newspaper Koha Jonë from a former body of the Labor Party Committee of Lezha district, after privatization, in an independent newspaper, in May 1991, can be said to mark a turning point, passing through the press phase party that had prevailed until then, in the independent press phase.

In September 1993 it was published three times a week and in January 1994 started publishing as a daily. Koha Jone dominated the Albanian press market indisputably by mid-1998. It played a role indisputable in the elaboration of public opinion. A role she has also played in the development of journalistic concepts in the country.
It was the first newspaper structured in a contemporary way and the first which made a revolution in the orientation of the press towards information.

Koha Jone was the first who started in 1994 publishing an in-house supplement its pages, entitled AKS.

NEWSPAPER “CORREIO DO MINHO”

Our city – Braga – has 3 important newspapers and we decided to choose the newspaper “Correio do Minho” for this project.

If you translate its title to English, it would be “Minho’s Mail” – Minho is the name of a province. Portugal has 11 provinces and Braga belongs to Minho’s province.

“Correio do Minho” is almost 100 years old. It is a daily newspaper and its director is, since 2007, Paulo Monteiro.

The newspaper gives special attention to the problems of Minho’s province. Many of its news involve Minho’s economical, administrative, political, educational and sports institutions.

HISTORY

The newspaper “Correio do Minho” was founded on the 6th of July 1926 by a group of journalists and its first director was Álvaro Pipa.

Three important moments mark the history of this newspaper:

– From 1926 to 1934 – in 1934, there was a change in the ruling of the country and the newspaper started being controlled by the National Union and ceased being a private property.

– From 1934 to 1974 – the newspaper had to obey the interests of the dictatorship ruling Portugal.

– From 1974 until the present time – the dictatorship was overthrown and a democracy was established. From 1974 until 1999, the newspaper’s activity was guided by the Civil Government and Braga’s Town Hall. From 1999 onwards, “Correio do Minho” conquered total editorial freedom, as it became private property.

This newspaper also has its own voice due to the solidarity actions it has developed all throughout the years. With a history full of stories, “Correio do Minho” contributes daily to Minho’s national and international position.

Interview with the journalist Marta Caldeira from our local newspaper “Correio do Minho”

Students from class 4.º1 S. Victor School (Braga, Portugal) had the opportunity to interview journalist Marta Caldeira from our local newspaper “Correio do Minho”.

Students had many pertinent questions. For example, the positive and negative aspects of being a journalist. Marta Caldeira said that she likes doing different things every day, the adventure involved and taking the initiative to suggest topics for her articles. On the other side, she doesn’t enjoy the daily stress and not having a consistent schedule.

Marta highlighted the importance of journalists and their mission. First of all, journalists must present the truth. They must rely on trustworthy sources and witnesses and transmit the truth to the public. Secondly, they have the opportunity to show the world all the problems and difficulties people go through in our region, so that people with political and / or economic power can do something about them. It is very gratifying when journalists see people being helped or getting their problems solved thanks to their work.

We also discussed all the work involved in the preparation and publication of a newspaper and the topics Marta prefers – reports about good things people do or publicizing people’s talents.

Students also asked Marta Caldeira about the reasons which led her to become a journalist and the most shocking news she had written.

Marta taught us about the structure of a newspaper article. It’s called the inverted pyramid structure. The essential and most attention-grabbing elements must come first. Other information supporting and explaining the main story come afterwards in order of diminishing importance. The least important information is at the bottom.

Our interview with journalist Marta Caldeira went very well and students learnt a lot about being a journalist and writing articles for a newspaper. We would like to thank journalist Marta Caldeira for kindly agreeing with this interview and for all the time she spent with us!

Local newspaper – “ONE on the sidewalk”

“UNU pe Trotuș” is a press project launched in September 2015, in Onești, by journalist Marius Mihalcea. Initially, “UNU pe Trotuș” appeared on the market as a bi-monthly publication, in print format. From the first issue, “UNU pe Trotuș” gained the appreciation and respect of readers by promoting topics of local interest, from all spheres, approached in a balanced way and presented to readers in a professional way.
Since the fall of 2016, the title has moved online (https://unupetrotus.ro/). The change of the business model was imposed, first of all, by the permanent evolution of the information and communication technology, in the “Speed Century” being essential that the procurement, processing, storage, conversion and transmission of information be done in a short time. . From the attractive design of the print version, we moved to a pleasing graphical interface for the eye and a structure that is easy to access and navigate by the reader, including on mobile devices.
Thus, “UNU pe Trotuș” became, in a very short time, the NUMBER ONE site on Valea Trotușului and one of the most important in Bacău County, reaching record audience figures!

Eleftheria (=Freedom) has been a newspaper for 30 years. It is No. 1 in
our prefecture, Messenia. It is daily and circulates 6 days a week. Generally talking, the print edition is gradually declining due to the internet.

Eleftheria has 50 employees: journalists, correctors, those who print in the press late at midnight, accounting for ads, distributors of the newspaper.

The structure of the newspaper:
1. Newspaper manager
2. Editor-in-Chief
3. Editor of the material, Eleftheria has 2 (he is responsible for collecting the texts and putting titles which is important work, because a good title is a matter of experience. Finally, he puts the texts on the page with photos or not)
4. Simple authors

The newspaper closes late. They wait until late 8-9 p.m., the director meets with the Editor-in-Chief and the editors of the material and decides at that time the structure of the newspaper of the next day. On the first page of the paper they put 8 or 9 more important topics. The proofreader looks at the text before it is printed.

There is telephone communication of the people for their complaints, by e-mail or messenger.

A little before elementary schools in Greece closed in November, we were able to have a very fruitful discussion with a journalist from our local newspaper, Eleftheria. We asked him and learnt a lot about his job and newspapers. The students had prepared their questions but many more rose along the way. The two videos that we made contain almost everything that was mentioned in the interview. We hope you can learn a lot like we did!
