The treasure box

One sunny day Julia and her brother Rick were playing in the back yard. Suddenly, they heard a noise.

-Julia, come quick! Rick said. There’s something here!

-No, I am scared! There is the basement, I won’t come!

-I am going! Rick replies.

Rick stepped on the old wooden stairs, following the noise. It sounded like mourning..there was something in their basement and he was going to find out.

Outside, Julia was so nervous and scared. She wanted to go with Rick but she was too scared as she had a terrifying experience when she was little: she went down there and she saw a black shadow; this scared her so badly that she never stepped in the basement. Julia thought that it’s better for her to wait outside.

Down, in the basement, Rick tried to find who or what did that strange noise. He started to shout: “Hey, is there anybody in here? Please, I am here to help if you need it.” no sound, no nothing. He wanted to go back but, as he turned, he heard the noise again. It came from the back of an old leather armchair. Rick went there, moved the armchair but he saw nothing. “Maybe it’s just my imagination”, Rick thought.

He looked better and saw a wooden door near the armchair. He slowly opened it and whispered: “Hello! Hello! I am Rick! Who are you?”

A minute of silence…and then he hears the mourn again followed by a strange voice: “I was waiting for you to show up. I’ve been stuck in here for ages..only a pure heart can help me. Please, come in!”

Rick didn’t know what to do. He wanted to help the creature but, at the same time, he thought it was better for him to have Julia by his side. So he decided to leave and tell Julia everything.

He ran outside and found Julia crying near the basement door.

-I thought I will never see you again! Julia shouted. What happened down there?

-Dear sis, I…I found a creature…!

-A…creature? Do you hear yourself talking? We don’t live in a magic land! Wake up, Rick! stop fooling around!

-Listen, it needs help! It said it has been stuck for ages..He needs me, and I need you. Please, come with me! I promise everything will be all right!

-Ok, you owe me all your cat stamps!

-We have a deal! Rick smiled.

And they went down again in the basement. Everything was black and there was little light from a small bulb.

-Here, Julia! See that door? Open it and you will hear the voice!

-Here you are again! I knew you will come and rescue me! The voice said.

-Oh, God, Rick! You were so right! What should we do?

-We have to go there!

Rick held Julia’s hand and they stepped through that old wooden door. They never knew that this journey will change their lives.

“Follow my voice and you will find me!” they kept hearing.

As they were walking, they saw a white light that almost blinded them. They covered their eyes and heard the creature talking: “Here is my treasure box. You can’t touch it. To save me, you have to take this treasure box out of here. You will be able to touch this box only if you solve this puzzle.
