MONTE’S ADVENTURES IN 1980/1981 CHINA (PART III)

QINGDAO… PART III of this book is dedicated to the coastal areas of China from Qingdao (Tsingtao) in Shandong Province to Xiamen in the South. I have added 1980 Hong Kong and recent photos of Shanghai to show contrast to the 1980s.

SHANGHAI 2007… to fill out the end of this series on my adventures in China I am including one of my several returns to China after the 1980s to highlight some major differences. Shanghai is a vibrant city and has modernized its skyscrapers that show great creativity.  The first shot is of the Peace Hotel which is where I always stayed in the 1980s and in 2007.  Then some shots from the TV tower of the metropolis. A couple of photos show how there are still areas of old Shanghai among the new buildings. Then a couple of shots of Shanghai’s Chinatown.  But the highlight for a visitor is the modern Nanjing Road, a major new shopping district.

Finally, some photos in a Christian Church. We attended a Palm Sunday service and the lady pastor delivered a wonderful sermon. (Headphones for languages other than Chinese) The service was the same as any in America or Europe except the language was Chinese. Note that many of the congregrants were young people.
