WHEN THE CORONAVIRUS ARRIVED
On January 21, local health authorities and the World Health Organization announced that the new coronavirus, probably passed from animal to human (a jump in species, in technical jargon), is also transmitted from man to man. But still the experts did not know (and still the topic is discussed) how easily this can happen. The Ministry of Health has started recommending not to go to China unless strictly necessary. Meanwhile Wuhan became an isolated city and the Chinese New Year celebrations were canceled there and in other Chinese cities, such as Beijing and Macau.
IN ITALY
In Italy the cases were very few and all from China: starting from January 29 there were two Chinese tourists from Wuhan infected, hospitalized in Spallanzani – one of the Italian hospitals that will be protagonists (despite themselves) of the coronavirus affair.
AS THEY CALLED CORONAVIRUS
The name of the new disease caused by the coronavirus arrived on 11 February. The name, chosen by the WHO, is Covid-19: Co and vi to indicate the coronavirus family, d to indicate disease and finally 19 to emphasize that it was discovered in 2019.
THE SCHOOLS IN ITALY
from March 4 the Italian government has decided to close all schools in Italy until March 15, but have continued to extend it until the end of the year
RESTRICTIVE MEASURES IN ITALY
As regards the measures to contain the infection, Italy was the first European country to suspend all direct flights to and from China, with one of the most drastic measures in the EU. [7] Once the first internal outbreak was discovered, the first measures taken included the quarantine of 11 municipalities in northern Italy (in Lombardy and Veneto). On February 23 the Council of Ministers issued decree-law no. 6, which sanctions the total closure of the municipalities with active outbreaks and the suspension of demonstrations and events in the municipalities themselves; in the following days Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte issues a series of implementing decrees (DPCM) in which the restriction measures become progressively more stringent and gradually extended to the entire national territory
