The Great Tit is a species of a songbird which lives in groves and gardens. The Tit moves swiftly and gathers supplies. The Great Tis has a variety of voices. It eats insects and caterpillars. Sometime it eats fruit and seeds.
The Great Tit is common in Europe and Asia. It is a stable bird when most of the Great Tits are not migrating. In Israel, the Tit is common and stable. Over the years, the areas of its distribution have gradually expanded, along with the expansion of the settlement in Israel. When the country was established, the Great Tit was common in the north and central part of Israel. In the mid-80’s of the 20th century, it expanded and spread to all the Mediterranean area . It reached the west of the Negev and was seen in Arad and in vegetative areas in the desert area.
The Great Tit moves quickly. Its wingspan is 25.5 cm and it weighs 16-20 gram. The length of its body reaches 14 cm. It has a wide black line descending through the front of the yellow abdomen. The neck and head are black and it has white cheeks. The color of the upper part is an olive color. It has a white stripe and an outer tail feather. On young birds, the black part is replaced with brown and white parts in yellow.
