A Wonderful holiday in Barcelona
Barcelona is a very beautiful Spanish city and it is the second most populous and biggest city in Spain with 5,5 millions of inhabitants.
Barcelona is located in the northeastern part of the Mediterranean coast of mainland.
What about history?
Throughout its history ,Barcelona suffered numerous wars and invasions and it has been inhabited since ancient times by different peoples.
For example the Carthaginians settled there around 230 a.C. and around the fifth century it was also occupied by the Romans and later by the Visigoths.
The most important war for Barcelona was the Spanish succession war: it took place between 9th July 1713 and 12th September 1714.
What can we see?
In Barcelona we can visit a lot of monuments, museums, parks, cathedrals, theaters, squares and other beautiful attractions.
SAGRADA FAMILIA
Sagrada Familia is a large Catholic basilic designed by the architect Antoni Gaudí, the greatest exponent of Catalan modernism. At 172.5 meters high, the Sagrada Familia is one of the tallest religious buildings in the world and it is visited every year by numerous tourists of different religions.
MUSEUM OF PICASSO
The museum of Picasso is another famous attraction, it collects one of the largest collections of works by the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, and it is one of the most famous and visited museums in the city. The museum is housed in five medieval buildings, it is located in the La Ribera district. The museum collection consists of 4,249 works.
THE GUELL PARK
The Guell park is a public park designed by Antoni Gaudì with many gardens and architectural elements.
It is located at the top of the city and it was inaugurated as public park in 1926.
LA RAMBLA
“La Rambla” is the most famous street in Barcelona, it is one kilometer and four hundred meters long.
Along it we can find many different shops, bars and street artists.
La Rambla is always crowded with many tourists.
LA BOQUERIA
“La Boqueria” is the most famous market in Spain with more than 300 stalls.
It’s is not only a market where can be found a lot of food, but it has also become a tourist attraction for visitor that come from all over the world.
FESTIVALS
The Spring sound music festival ,is a festival for true music fans.
Another important event is the carnival which is held every year and which is very famous.
During the carnival period many gastronomic, sports and musical competitions are held.
SPORTING EVENTS
Cursa de la Mercè
One of the most felt sporting events is the “cursa de la Mercè” :10 km race across the city, open to both professionals and amateurs.
