Once, in the distant city of Akdov, there was a man who was both intelligent and strong. People would travel far and wide to sit at his feet and absorb his great wisdom. Others came to watch him perform feats of physical strength, balance and endurance. Still others came to hear his many stories, told with great wit.

One night, when he was asleep, an evil process began, and by the time he awoke, his great renown had disappeared. His many followers were gone and he found himself alone, shivering in a cold room, in a city he didn’t recognize. Sick and penniless, hunger forced him from his bed, to beg in the streets.

At last, he felt enough coins clattering in his pocket that he was able to return to Akdov. He ordered his usual. And when it was brought to him he drank deeply. He felt the warm, numbing sensation fill himself to his very bones. And he rejoiced greatly, for he had returned to his glory.
