For the students:
- Take a piece of paper and with a partner try to find all the words you understand and know they’re meaning.
- Next, make a list of the harder words that you are unsure of or have no idea what they mean.
- Sometimes an article can have difficult words and we might not understand everything, but from all the words we do understand we can know what the article is about. Listen to the story being read by the teacher and write down what you think this article is about.

I created a quizlet for the students to get acquainted with the words. After having read the flashcards and reviewed and understood them, they can play the matching game where they need to match the word to its definition. I will split the class into eight groups and have them come up with the best sentences that they can think of with the words and review them.
Now, after understanding all the words in the article , we will read the article again. The students will need to compare and contrast the differences between Barbies from the 1950’s to the new Barbies .

Forum Assignment
Should Students with Disabilities be Included in Regular Classes?
- After reading Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper for a book report, you need to write an argument either for inclusion of students with disabilities or against inclusion. You must use an example for one of your reasons based on something that happened in the book.
Some points you can address in your argument:
1) Would you want to have a student with disabilities as your classmate or sit next to them in class?
2) Should every kind of disability be allowed into a regular classroom?
3) How do you think the inclusion process would affect the class positively ,negatively, socially, academically?
What do you think should be done to make the inclusion process go smoother for the class?
4) Be honest, would you go out of your way to make them feel like they belong, would you ignore them, or worse yet make them feel like an outsider?
5) If you have a friend or family member with a disability feel free to ask him or her what would help them feel at home in a regular class and what they would like us to know about the inclusion process.
- You make work in pairs and present your argument on the forum, try to convince your classmates of your position. You have one week to present your opinion.
- After that we will have an anonymous vote to decide if kids with disabilities should be included into our classrooms.
