The 17th of May
The 17th of May is our national day. We celebrate, because we got our own constitution in 1814. We had been in a union with Denmark for over 400 years, and now we were our own country. Everyone was very happy, and the children had a parade in the streets.
This has became a tradition.
On the 17th of May now, children still go in this parade. They go through the middle of Oslo, past the castle. The parade is filled with happy children and a lot of Norwegian flags. At the evening many people get together with their families and friends to eat good food. Children that goes to school often meet at their school and play games and eat cake.

Oslo, environmental main state
In 2019 Oslo was announced to be the environmental main state. This is a price that is awarded to a City every year. The first time they handed out the price was in May 2008, in Stockholm.
Oslo have been close to getting the title many times before, but it wasn’t until 2019 Oslo won the price. The subways in Oslo is a great reduction and was one of the reasons we won. From now on, Oslo will work to become even more environmentally friendly.
