A magic adventure in Verona

Castelvecchio and the history of Cangrande

After the presentations our tour guide leaded us to Castelvecchio, a huge castle near the Adige river. The guide explained us that Mastino II Cangrande, which was the prince of Verona, was very hated at the time so he decided to build a castle near the river, in case that the population wanted to kill him he was able to escape easily through a bridge. However one of his cousins (Alberto II) killed him and everyone soon forgot about Cangrande. Alberto II was a very good Prince and the population of Verona loved him. In fact as you will see in the next page Alberto II has a more beautiful tomb than Mastino II.

Scaligeri Arch’s

The Scaligeri Arch’s is the cemetery of the most important members of the Scaligeri family, the most famous is Cangrande I Della Scala which hosted Dante Degli Alighieri during the period of the exile. Dante dedicated him a small part of the “Paradise” (one of the three sections of the “Divina Commedia”)

to thank him for the hospitality.

Romeo and Juliet 

At school we have read the most famous Shakespeare romance, which is “Romeo and Juliet” and then the class decided to visit the city of the young lovers. We visited Juliet’s house, a magical place where love still there even if the two lovers are dead,
