An eventful day in Verona

SHAKESPEARE

Shakespeare was a famous writer, poet, playwright, actor. One of his most famous work is Romeo and Juliet, which was set in Verona. We were already familiar with the story because we read the book this summer and it was fun to see the place where it was set! We think it’s a good idea to read the book before visiting the city.

SCALIGERI FAMILY

The Scaligeri family used to be the most rich noble families of Verona!

ARCHE SCALIGERE

Arche scaligere is a group of five Gothic funerary monuments.

GIULIETTA’S HOUSE

This is Giulietta’s house’s wall. As you can see it is stunning inside and typical medieval!

SAN ZENO

The church of San Zeno is a beautiful example of Romanesque architecture in Verona.

CASTLE 

This castle is called Castelvecchio, it is the most important military construction of the Scaliger dynasty that ruled the city in the Middle Ages.

GIULIETTA’S HOUSE

This is the exterior part of Giulietta’s house, where her statue is located. A lot of people take pictures with this statue to simbolise their trip to Verona. It’s highly advised to visit the house because it’s stunning inside, and it’s also possible to visit the famous balcony of Juliet!

ARCO DEI GAVI

This is an ancient structure, which was built by the gens Gavia. During the Middle Ages it was used as a gate in the walls. Nearby you can see the whole city, which is magnificent!

PIAZZA DELLE ERBE

Piazza delle Erbe is a square in Verona, which was once in the town’s forum during the time of the Roman Empire. The houses in this square look beautiful, which leads a lot of people to take pictures of them!

PIAZZA DANTE

This is a square located in the ancient centre near Piazza delle Erbe. In the winter time there are lots of Christmas markets, where you can buy typical Christmas items, like decorations for your tree or delicious food!

SCAVENGER HUNT

In the afternoon it would be a good idea to do a scavenger hunt! It takes a lot of time to organise it but it will be worth it, because everybody will probably have fun! For example there could be different groups and different challenges, where you could improve your English and be bold by talking, or even singing with strangers! At the end of the game the winning team could be given prizes, so everybody will be eager to win! This could make a trip to Verona very fun and everybody would be happy and entertained, without feeling bored!
