The Best Kept Secret in Athens

Athens has many beautiful spots, many enticing restaurants and watering holes, but the best kept secret is an establishment in the flea market.

It’s so exclusive that Maria has to guard the entrance. But if you say the magic words “I am thirsty” or “I am hungry” or “I want to have coffee on the roof overlooking the Acropolis” she may just let you in. Or not.

You will agree she is an intimidating guard. Only the select few can pass.

This is the guy behind the secret operation. His nickname is Panos and he studied architecture in Finland. He gave me his card but the ink disappeared within hours.

Like I said, it’s a secret establishment.

Panos is fourth or fifth generation. The rooms have special decor. This one has a maritime theme.

Another has seven cabinets, each containing ceramics from a different island of Greece.
