New Worlds and Beyond Planet Earth

It is so easy to understand why a simple swineherd was leaving the village where he was born and went to risk his life, crossing the oceans hoping to gain wealth and happiness. Europeans in the late 15th century must have been amazed from the discovery of the new lands and its inhabitants they never knew existed before; I figure it is as we will discover nowadays living organisms on a nearby planet. How big was the excitement of the crowds in the streets, in Royal clubs and monasteries? What were the headlines in street posters, distributed leaflets and what was written in those? What did they gossip in pubs? After all, who did not want to travel and see the New World and its savage inhabitants? I’m sure if I’d been there, I would like to sail to the “New World”.

How big was the appreciation the sailors received once returning from the New World with such exciting stories of encounters with different cultures and a discovery of a new human race whose existence was unknown.

They must have been curios to their bones hearing from the sailors stories of residents whom walk naked, their bodies painted and with a gold ring in their noses … ha ha! I imagine a couple of sailor comrades sitting in a pub near the bustling port of merchant vessels, cups of beer in their hands, and they talk and wonder of it. One sees in those natives the peak of innocence, the return to nature and the period of the days of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden before the Fall, and in his opinion these natives are the most certain to be the descendants of Noah. He ends up with a defeating question: After all, if it wasn’t so, how did they pass the flood…? But his friend is outraged, slamming his cup on the table (at this step he must be already half drunk), and yells at his companion that, they, the Indians, they are animals and not humans. We should not only condemn these uncivilized savages, but to teach them the cultural values of Europe…!

I am sitting in a pub with a friend, near the bustling waterfront of Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong, cups of beer in our hands, and we talk and wonder of New Worlds and Beyond Planet Earth.

My friend is pretty much convinced that mankind was always fascinated of the wonders of the world. “The more we know the more we get to the understanding that there is yet so much to discover,” he says.

He explains that if there are common reasons that throughout history motivated us in sending out expensive expeditions to the far corners of the known world and beyond, it will always go back to commerce and financial profit, fame and curiosity.

The 3G – Gospel, Gold and Glory they all motivated us throughout history and soon enough even with the absence of G force.

I didn’t keep quiet and added farther that as for me there are 3 types of people: living, dead and those in space. The Moon, Mars, an icy moon of Jupiter, missions to these destinations, soon enough, would all involve countless hours of planning and hard risky work. Already now, our lives dependent of the commercial use of space using satellite navigation systems, satellite television and satellite radio. It is so exciting now as Space tourism is the next vibe. I can’t wait to see the first Astronauts back on earth, sharing their experiences.
