The Geometry of Countries project is an interdisciplinary project. This perspective combined with the unique characteristics of different cultures enriched the project. It was inspired by many events in the beginning. This project includes the discovery of mathematical phenomena that accompany us in life while improving the visual percep- tion of students.
We aim to create awareness by combining geometry with historical culture by discovering all the mathematical phenomena that represent the country in the flag, architecture in historical buildings, patterns in clothing with local identity, figures in goods reflecting the culture used.In this respect, we aim to enable our students to share the historical heritage values between cultures with each other, develop artistic perspectives, and realize the value that mathematics and geometry add to human life. In our school, we have tried to make our students discover how mathematics takes place in all areas of life from past to present.
We would like to share our story in this project
Students from 7 different countries came together with us.
Who are we?
We participated in this study with two groups in our school located in Bigadiç district of Balıkesir province.
First of all, we determined the name of our group with our friends.

NOVEMBER
A publicity meeting of the project was held in November. Then friends who want to participate were determined.
Our first job was to design a school board to share with other friends at our school.
Our second job was to shoot a promotional video to promote our school.
DECEMBER
In December, we conducted our logo design, poster design, intro video and preliminary surveys. We introduced new web 2.0 tools during the design and video production stages.
DECEMBER ENTERTAINMENT
In our December entertainment corner, we used the papers we designed using fractal structures in geometry. We prepared the Christmas cards by decorating the papers we prepared and sent them to our friends in other countries.
JANUARY
In January, we drew our flag using proportions according to their actual size.

As our second mission, we told the story of our flag. For this purpose, we told the story of our flag by creating cartoon characters with pixton web tool

We prepared a magazine using Stoty Jumper at Geometry of Historical Buildings.

We used the Emaze program in the Geometry of Decaration Arts in Architecture.
Geometry of Decoration Arts in Architecture Activity

We tried to draw examples of ornaments belonging to Seljuk and Ottoman periods with the help of compasses and ruler.
According to what we learned;
-
Polish academician Miraslow Majewski, who is interested in Islamic art, discovered geometric patterns used in Islamic art while dealing with mathematics.
-
Majewski says that Islamic civilization attaches great importance to mathematics and geometry, but with the technology, traditional arts are gradually disappearing.
-
What if you don’t have crafts? That’s why we’re traditional art. As long as he exists, we are there. O Istanbul still hosts many types of traditional art, such as calligraphy, carving, marbling, and so on.
İslam sanatına ilgi duyan Polonyalı akademisyen Miraslow Majewski, İslam sanatında matematikle uğraşırken kullanılan geometrik kalıpları keşfetti.
Majewski, İslam medeniyetinin matematiğe ve geometriye büyük önem verdiğini, ancak teknolojiyle birlikte geleneksel sanatların giderek kaybolduğunu söylüyor.
Ya el sanatları yoksa? Bu yüzden biz geleneksel sanatız. Var olduğu sürece biz oradayız. İstanbul hala hat sanatı, oymacılık, ebru vb. Gibi geleneksel sanat türlerine ev sahipliği yapıyor.
FEBRUARY ENTERTAINTMENT CORNER
We built the Da Vinci Bridge using only wooden sticks. We did not use any connection material in the structure. We used two different sizes of bars according to the golden ratio.

MARCH
Geometry in Traditional Clothing
All our group members took photos of the local clothes around their homes. We examined the geometric figures on them.
We placed our works in the padlet opened for the event.

T – shirt design using geometric Escher figures
In our event we used the famous painter Mautrists Cornelis Escher to decide on the our T-shirts.The reason that influenced us was his of transformation geometry in the objects he drew cover the surfacess in his works. Story Jumper was used in the study.

APRIL
We’ve done a lot this month. We had two headlines.
*House Stuff Geometry
*Language of Geometry in Traditional Household Goods
The entertaintment corner was the geometry with the philography.
First of all, the task distribution and information was given by our teacher. We decided what to do with the distribution of tasks.
We have seen that our culture is very rich in these two subjects. 7 friends have done the following tasks.
* Geometric structures and objects in historical mansions
* Carpets, saddlebags, rugs. etc. geometric patterns in furniture and their meanings
* Balıkesir Hüma Hatun Girls High School Crafts workshop visit
* Interview with our elders about old patterns
* April school board preparation
