Back in the days of Roses and wine,
Early nineteen forty-nine
Harry and Faigel
Faigel and Harry
Fell in love and
Decided to marry.
2
I don’t know how they chose the date,
Winter, Winnipeg, but they couldn’t wait
Who knows what they were thinking of,
But that’s what happens
When you’re in love
4
There are some theories,
But who can remember
Why Faigel and Harry
Tied the knot in December
After all, ‘twas only in fifty-one
That they had a son.
In fifty-three they lost their lease
And had to move out to the east
Eastview, Ottawa, then a house with a well,
Madeline and Miss Clavel.
6
Harry and Faigel decided they oughter
Have a little baby daughter,
And then came Reen
The little queen
8
Followed by Miriam
On Hallowe’en.
10
And then in ’60 a stork or heron
Brought us little David Aaron
12
We were a big brood
In need of food
Rib steaks, tuna, blintzes and Knishes,
Mom baked the world’s best cakes and kamishes,
Freshly picked bottles of big raspberries
And O.J. with maraschino cherries.
(With all the food in the Frigidaire
Mom made the grocer a millionaire).
14
Harry and Faigel worked hard and harder
To keep us clothed and fill the larder
Harry flew and flew, came and went
Working for the government.
In the meantime Faigel,
Being caring and witty,
Taught half the Jewish kids in the city.
16
Us four kids have upped and grown
18
And now have children of our own!
20
So Faigel and Harry, Harry and Faigel
Eat, drink, be merry,
Stay fit and able,
We love you and appreciate all you’ve done
And are looking forward to fifty-one!!
