As you know, dinosaurs were a species that populated the planet millions of years ago. They were prehistoric reptiles of all sizes, even gigantic ones that populated the planet earth during the so-called “Mesozoic Era”. They are extinct now, which means that as far as we know, all of them have died.
Since dinosaurs are extinct, no one has ever seen a living one. That means the pictures you see of dinosaurs are just guesses at what dinosaurs look like. Today, many children like finding out about dinosaurs. When the child was a child, no one knew about these long-dead animals. Children always ask questions: when the dinosaur died? How big are they? how tall they are, how heavy they are, what did dinosaurs eat? etc. And it is not only the kids that take an interest in the prehistoric creatures, but many adults love dinosaurs and their mystery too. Personally, I have always liked everything that related to dinosaurs, from books to movies or dinosaur games …I can watch a movie about dinosaurs many times, or sit for hours to bowl color a dinosaur, so I am a fan of dinosaurs.
Types of dinosaurs that most children know:
Scientists have discovered many species of dinosaurs over the years and even more, are being discovered as more fossils are found. As more and more fossils are found, you will know the interesting truth of some dinosaurs.
TYRANNOSAURUS REX
Topping this list must be the most fearsome dinosaur – Tyrannosaurus rex. It is recognized as one of the fiercest carnivores. It had 10-14meters in length and could weigh up to 7 tons. Due to its size and strength, it is believed that it was an excellent predator.
Although it has such a large and frightening size, his hands were so short that he did not even serve to take food to his mouth. So some scientists are not sure how he got that meat.
ANKYLOSAURUS:
This is a herbivorous dinosaur, it is easy to identify by its body that was completely protected by spines and bone plates. Its tail is also folded with a heavy mallet of bone, which is used to defend themselves against their attackers. The armor was topped with spines to make sure no predators came near. To avoid overturning and being bitten in the belly, this animal bent its legs when attacked, so that it was stuck to the ground.
VELOCIRAPTOR
Velociraptor is one of the most famous and fascinating dinosaurs. It lived in the Campanian period that happened at the end of the Cretaceous period, about 75 to 71 million years ago, mainly in Asia. This carnivorous dinosaur has 1.8 meters in length and weighs 15 kg. It had strong claws on its legs that served as a tool to subdue its prey.
The name “Velociraptor” comes from one of its main characteristics. That is “fast thief” in Latin, which tells us about its incredible ability to run. An interesting thing about this dinosaur is that it ran on two legs. These legs had bones very similar to the bones of the birds, plus it had a curved claw on each leg.
TRICERATOPS
This herbivorous dinosaur species is easy to recognize by 3 horns on its head. It had 9 meters high and weigh 6 tons. It is considered one of the largest horned dinosaurs that lived at the end of the Cretaceous. With its body is said to be similar to rhinos today, it may walk on all fours. Because of its horns, it is believed that it could defend itself from large Predators like the Tyrannosaurus.
BRACHIOSAURUS
And finally we have the most gentle dinosaur and I could not miss mentioning in this list.
It is the only dinosaur known with its front legs longer than the hind legs. It is a clear example of the characteristics of sauropod dinosaurs: a large body had a very long neck and a very small head in comparison. This herbivore that could measure up to 28 meters and weigh up to 50 tons, was adapted to feed on the tallest trees. This genre of dinosaur had quite large dimensions. It is a large dinosaur that has been classified within the group of sauropod dinosaurs.
Dinosaurs are very popular with young children, they seem to be fascinated with these prehistoric animals and the color dinosaur is a fun and educational theme for children. The ideas children have about dinosaurs include: might, power, immensity, horror, and tragedy. The emergence of dinosaur coloring pages, dinosaur games added to the already existing notions children have of dinosaurs. Isn’t it a great idea to have something fun that kids can do, which relates very well to dinosaurs and the rich history they possess?
