The Amish

The Amish are a group of traditionalist Christian church fellowships with Swiss German Anabaptist origins.

They live in scattered settlements in the United States, and

.some even live in Ontario, Canada

The style of clothing Amish wear reflects universal values of humility and modesty. A uniform style of dress discourages physical appearance as a source of pride. Plain clothing also carries important traditional symbolism.

The specific style of plain clothes worn by the Amish are a marker of the people, with variations in clothing often indicative of a particular Amish affiliation. Amish discern differences in plain clothing styles between different groups which can help them place the origin community of the wearer.

The practice of head covering is derived from 1 Corinthians 11: 5-6 – “But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.

The Amish family is the foundation of the Amish way of life. The family structure and traditions that seem to be taken from a page out of history, have remained an integral part of the Amish culture.

This is not by accident. They have an unwritten blueprint for Amish living called the Ordnung that guides them through all the details of everyday life.

To us, these rules might seem extremely legalistic. But the Amish consider the Ordnung to be a sacred trust that separates them from the outside world.

It binds them together in their quest for eternal salvation and creates a desire for unity and conformity. When its members live together, work together, worship together and socialize together, the Amish family is made stronger.

The amish choose that way because they want to devote time to thier family, religion and occupations.
