Towards Freedom

Jim and I helped Tom to get in the raft and then we rowed to the other side of the river where lived a doctor who helped slaves and their friends. When we arrived, the doctor immediately took a look at Tom’s leg and quickly tried to extract the bullet. After that, he bandaged the injury and gave the bullet to Tom who was so proud that he made a necklace out of it.

After resting for a couple of days, we started our journey again. We visited some cities along the river and we had a lot of fun. We slept in the raft and we ate the fish that we caught in the river. After a month and many other adventures, we managed to reach Ohio.

Tom is still alive and we are still friends. In fact, he lives near my house here in Ohio. He is now calmer than when he was younger but he loves telling his stories to all the children of the neighborhood. Jim is finally free and he lives in Ohio but in another city. Sometimes we all get together to talk about the old times.
