“Bye mum”, Amelie called as she was leaving for her friend’s party. She hopped in the car,
turned on the engine and started driving. Amelie was a typical seventeen-year-old girl. For
her, life was all about makeup, social life and always looking great. Amelie had straight
brown hair just passed her shoulders and always wore the most stylish outfits. All she ever
wanted was to be independent. Now that she had finally received her long-awaited licence,
she had the ability to do much more independently. Amelie had a lot of experience driving,
however never had she driven at night in the pouring rain. She felt very confident driving
until she realised, she couldn’t see clearly through her front car window. Her heart started
beating fast, thoughts popped into her head, what if I crash? What if I can’t control the car?
What if my car breaks down?Amelie took a few deep breaths and gained her confidence again to continue driving.
Just when Amelie was almost at the party, she saw two bright light coming towards her. A
car was speeding down the road as fast as a race car. Amelie had no time to turn around or
move out of the way before the car went strait into hers and she swivelled right off the
road, down a hill, into a big ditch filled with thick, dark brown mud. Her car wouldn’t move,
it would not go forwards or backwards. She started the engine again and again but all that
came from the car was a sad disturbing noise. Her last idea was to try and push the car, but
it did no budge. She knew she would never be strong enough to get he car out. There was
no other was to get the car out of the ditch so Amelie decided to walk and maybe she would
find a solution.
Her first thought was to call someone for help. She pulled her phone out of her bag to call
her mum. She dialled the number, pressed call and as the first ring was about to go it
stopped, the screen went black and her phone wouldn’t turn back on. Her last chance to get
help had escaped, her phone had died and there was no other way to get home. What was
she meant to do now? All Amelie could do was continue walking and hope to find help.
Amelie walked past a bike rider wearing a bright yellow jacket with sweat dripping down his
face. When she asked him for help, he just ignored her, he didn’t even say a word. Then she
walked up to two young girls, about her age chewing gum. They were wearing mini skirts
and the most makeup anyone could physically fit on their face. She was walking towards
them to ask if they could help her when unexpectedly they walked strait into Amelie
pushing her into a mountain of mud. Now not only was her car covered in mud, but she was
too, dripping from head to toe, brown, gooey, thick mud all over her. As she was getting up
from the ground thinking that her night could not get any worse a car drove by splashing her
whole back with cold dirty water.
Amelie started wiping the mud off her face when she saw a light flickering in the distance.
She walked towards it shivering and shaking from the cold hoping to find some warmth and
help there. As she got closer, she could make out what the flickering lights were coming
from. It was a rundown shop with broken flashing neon lights. It had fallen apart so much,
you could see what it was made from. You could see the wood planks half off the roof, and
you could tell it was made by a couple of amateurs. Amelie thought to herself whether it
would be a risk to go into tis shop as I might be dangerous or if she should go in to find help.
She decided to go in thinking that nothing worse could happen.
The second she stepped foot into the mysterious looking shop an old man in a black cloak
with a glass eye came towards her from the back of the room. Before Amelie could say
anything the man screamed “what do you want? I have nothing for you!”. Amelie answered
in fright, stuttering “I was wondering if you could help me. Lend me a pone?”. She was
hardly finished her sentence when he started chasing her out the door screaming “No, No,
No!”. Amelie ran as fast as she could and as far as she could. “OOF!”, Amelie ran strait in to
a man breathless. Amelie looked up and saw a young man in a blazer, his hair was perfect,
and he had beautiful, blue, sparkling eyes. He pulled Amelie up from the ground and saw
her all messy and wet. He said to her “are you ok? You are such a mess”. Amelie could not
help it anymore, she couldn’t hold it in, Amelie burst into tears and explained her whole
disastrous night that led to her bumping into him.
The young man offered to give her a ride home as he had a car there anyway. She took his
offer and gave him a big hug. Amelie hopped into his car. He passed her a towel to sit on
and a towel to dry herself with. Amelie told him where she lived and how to get home. They
had great conversations on the way. They told each other their back stories, played music
and exchanged numbers as they were pulling up in the drive way, she said a big thank you to
him and walked inside.
Amelie mum rushed to the door and embraced her in the biggest hug the second she waked
inside. When her mum let go, she noticed the mess Amelie was in. her mascara had dripped,
she was all wet and all muddy. Her mums face turned from relieved to see her daughter
home to worried. She cried “what happened darling?”. Amelie explained the whole night to
her, from when she flew off the road till, she met the guy she got a ride home with. Amelie’s
mum felt so bad for her. She told her to go upstairs and clean herself up and then they will
talk after.
Once Amelie was all showed and clean, she went back downstairs to her mum. Her mum
had made her hot cocoa and put out biscuits for her. Amelie mum told Amelie to come sit
down. They decided together that they needed to make some calls. They called a car agency
first and organised with them to collect the car and take it to check it out for damage. Then
they called the young man who dropped Amelie off at home and thanked him so much. She
explained how much she appreciated it, it was like he was sent to help her. Afterwards they
rung up Amelie’s friend to apologize for not coming to the party. All the friend said was that
she was happy that Amelie had gotten home safely.
Amelie had learnt many lessons from that night. She new from then on to first of all always
charge her phone just in case of an emergency but most important she leant to be very
carful when driving especially at night when the roads are slippery from the rain.
