NOCERA INFERIORE

In the old Nocera , there were some jobs that now disappeared.

Like : the trumpeteer, the shoes shine , the human allarm , the employees of the tomato industry ,  the sharpener , the lamplighter and the hot pear sellers . 

THE SHOESHINE

An  old of this one  is the shoeshine.

A famous Nocerin shoeshine was Domenico Ravelli , called “Minicuccio” in square Amendola  . He died 29 years ago .

The pear seller

The hot pear sellers were located in the town centre , they were always women .

The most known was Maria called “capaianca”.

This job had a pause during the summer, where the hot pear sellers were at the tomato industry for getting a precious salary for the winter .

THE LAMPLIGHTER

Another example of old lost job is the lamplighter. He used a stick that had a flame on it to turn on the lamps at night, and at morning he used another stick to turn off the flame.

This job, with years, becaume useless, because of electricity.

HUMAN ALLARM

The human allarm job was a very common job in 1800 and 1900. Like the very name says, the human allarm was all about waking up people with a bamboo-type stick.

THE TRUMPETEER

In the old Nocera, on circus Vittorio Emanuele, there were rails for making the tram work.

The trumpeteer, every time that the tram arrived, had to advise the people with a trumpet .
