What is a Tsunami?

A tsunami is a series of enormous ocean waves caused by earthquakes, underwater landslides, volcanic eruptions. A tsunami can kill or injure people and damage or destroy buildings as waves come in and go out.

Tsunamis can:

  • Travel 20-30 miles per hour with waves 10-100 feet high.

  • Cause flooding and disrupt tranportation, power, communications, and the water supply.

  • Happen anywhere along U.S.A coasts. Coasts that border the Pacific Ocean or Caribbean have the greatest risk.

  • Get to high ground as far inland as possible.

  • Be alert to signs of a tsunami, such as a sudden rise or draining of ocean waters.

  • Listen to emergency information and alerts.

  • Evacuate: DO NOT wait! Leave as soon as you see any natural signs of a tsunami or receive an official tsunami warning.

My Blog

Welcome to Koral’s blog.

I want to tell you about a bad experiece that

happened to me in Thailand in 2004.

I was in a vacation with my family. We were in the hotel

eating breakfast. After that we went to the beach. We had a

lot of fun, we ate ice cream, and drink cocus until we saw a

very big wave coming to us. We ran to a high building and

hide there. The wave hit the building but we survived.

I was very nervous and scared. I said to my parents that

we need to go back home. I think that what happened to us was a miracle.
