Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452, in Anchiano, Italy.
The Mona Lisa, the Last Supper and the Vitruvian Man are his most famous works.
His painting Salvador Mundi sold for 450.3 million dollars, the highest price ever paid for a work of art. It sold on November 15, 2017 in New York.
Leonardo da Vinci’s total output in painting is really rather small. there are less than 20 surviving paintings that can be definitely attributed to him, and several of them are unfinished.
Leonardo is sometimes credited as the inventor of the tank, helicopter, parachute, and flying machine. He made the sketches before they were even invented, but he didn’t actually built them.
The Mona Lisa set the standard for all future portraits. The painting presents a woman, Lisa del Giocondo, the wife of the Florentine merchant Francesco del Giocondo—hence.
The picture presents a half-body portrait of the subject, with a distant landscape visible as a backdrop. Although utilizing a seemingly simple formula for portraiture, the expressive synthesis that Leonardo achieved between sitter and landscape has placed this work in the canon of the most-popular and most-analyzed paintings of all time.
Leonardo died on may 2 1519 (aged 67) in Amboise, kingdom of France.
