One of the beginnings of the Revolutionary War came from The Boston Tea Party in 1773. Americans were made about the taxes on everything that used to be free. So they decided to, in the middle of the night, sneak on board one of the British ships and throw all of their tea into the Boston Harbor. This increased tension between the British and Americans.
The British passed a number of acts (laws) that also pushed a lot of the Americans toward fighting for their independence. The first one we’ll go over is the Quartering Act. Basically, this stated that Colonists must house British troops. Many didn’t like having random soldiers living with their families.
Another act that the British passed was the Administration of Justice Act. This stated that royal officials could be tried in England if felt it was fair. Usually this system was abused and the King did it to keep his people safe, while making the Colonists angry.
The third act we’ll go over is the Massachusetts Government act. This allowed the British government complete control over government processes in Massachusetts, which obviously angered colonists, due to being told what to do from a government that was across the Atlantic Ocean.
The final act we’ll go over is the Boston Port Act. This completely closed the Boston Port until the Dutch East India Company was paid back for all of the tea ruined from the Boston Tea Party we mentioned earlier. Colonists obviously didn’t want to pay that back and were frustrated.
