I was in Valun the first time in 1973 …
My family had discovered it thanks to Tia Maria, a lady known to my grandmother Pina at the College for Modena war orphans, where both had their children studying.
What an adventure the journey, then the highway ended at Lisert then it was a single lane road to Brestova, where we took the ferry. The last piece was little more than a small road and passed through the land of the farmers/shepherds, so about every 200 m you had to go down to open the “gates” in order to pass.
At the time my grandmother and Tia Maria left together for the holidays, Tia Maria left from Modena with a Fiat 126 and my grandmother complained that when she arrived in Mantua, the car was already full and she did not have enough space for luggage …. and we laugh because the Fiat 126 was not really famous for the space …
Valun is a small village and has the distinction of being a pedestrian island, in fact cars are left in the parking lot on the mountain behind him ….. this has preserved the feeling of peace!
the beauty of walking in the small streets or watching the bay from above and having this view … look at every time of day the changing light and the different atmosphere that you breathe, close your eyes and listen to the noises that vary depending of the time of day … the sound of the water of someone swimming in the bay
find a stone ladder that takes you directly into the sea …
Dining, practically “on the water” at “Na Moru” or “from Giordano” in the light of the sunset and the lanterns….
take a bath in that incredible transparent water or just watch the sea and get lost in its blue …..
I know the places where you spent your youth will always look more beautiful than they are, but I’m sure that if you go to visit it you will be fascinated and you’ll fall in love with it as it happened to me!
