A New Beginning September 6

Even before I entered year 5, I new what class I would be in. Out of classes like A, B, C, D, there was only one class I haven’t been in, C. It was a bright morning as I walked to class, which was long and tiring but as I finally entered the class, Ademola was the first one to enter the class. At the moment, I was 9, and I was early to come to class. At 7:30 that when my first teacher, Obadele had started to tell us to get started for our first lesson, numeracy.

I was put in the highest numeracy group, 5B.

I guess my past academic history about increased learning of numeracy.

I knew I’d do great to be in a class full of children with exceeding(highest level) and mastered(second highest level, and I did, I was able to retain my class through out year 5 except for second term.

Making friends

Making friends through out from year 2 to year 4 is simple because most of my class mates are the same but in this year 5, it was something different.

Not up to half the class had been in my former classes, except 4 students( Femi, Kene, Selena and Amir).

The first three children are still in my class but the last one later left C.I.S, a former friend. Normally, in C.I.S, year 5-6 should contain students from 9-11 but some of my friends are older and still in year 5.

For the rest of my friends, I just gained their trust.

It was simple since I had the whole of 170 days.

At the beginning, it wasn’t easy since almost all my class mates teased me of being a fun-killer( Some one takes out the fun of everyone) and then no one liked any of the games I’d like to bring to the post, the only thing they’ll except of me being a good footballer.

After gaining trust, by changing my way of games, I’d finally made some new friends.

Here are what they said: Dami you are one of the smartest people i know keep on reaching for the stars.

Dami: You are smart and diligent, you like to play with people on the playground

Working Progress

I was working with accuracy, distinct speed and neatly in numeracy. At this pace I might be the best person in a leveled advanced class.

Although I was good in numeracy, I wasn’t as good in literacy, even though I was at the highest class in literacy, I didn’t picture myself as the best in the class because:

A.)I don’t make the best posters

B.)I do all homework but don’t make most imaginary and creative sentences.

In topic, I was okay and doing well which is easy to say because all you need to do is to listen to exactly what the teacher says and then your’ll set for finishing task, with materials of course.

In Science, I find it really interesting because that’s when we can conduct experiments and also we learn about incredible things for example:

Did you know that for every force, there in an opposing force which is why things stay still or why gravity doesn’t make you sink into the earth.

Did you know that there is a force called water resistance that pushes you in the opposite direction when in water. It also explains why you run faster on land than in water.

Another force is called air resistance, when a plane is flying at a certain amount of velocity, another force will be moving in the opposite direction, this is why planes are shaped arrow dynamic and when parachutes open, the user falls slowly. In this the rule is the bigger the object the more the wind force.

The last force to be listed is lubrication. when an object’s friction is to much for example, rusted bike, people use oil to fix the problem, the oil is lubricant, allowing the rusted bike to move.

My most favorite subject is mental math, I am very indeed good at it that in-fact, I am the first in my class to move one to another book and be on mental arithmetic book 4. I see why I like it cause I also like numeracy, which means that both subjects are linked

Academic lessons

The lessons I have in year 5 are literacy, numeracy, music, science, topic, french, art, swimming, PE, class meeting, golden time and project time.

In numeracy, I am in the highest group 5B, in which I learn angles, fractions, decimals and L.C.M with H.C.M.

In angles, I learn reflex angles( angles past 180 degrees ), obtuse angles ( between 180 degrees and 90 degrees, right angles( exactly 90 degrees) and acute angles( between 90 degrees and 1 degrees).

In fractions, I learn how to subtract fractions from one another, how to to add fractions, how to convert fractions, types of fractions, converting to equivalent fractions, converting to improper and mix number and vise versa, converting fractions to decimals and converting fraction denominators and numerators.

In literacy, I am in 5A literacy class which there I learn, William Shakespeare, adverbials, formal letters, Michael Morpurgo, and other famous authors.

In William Shakespeare I learn when he was born, where he lives, when he died. About Michael morpurgo, I learn books he wrote like warhorse or Kensuke’s Kingdom.

Physical lessons

These include swimming and PE( physical education).

In PE I learn to do types of sport like Basket Ball, running, football and field hockey.

In basket ball, I learn that a leg out is when you hold the ball and you are out of the court, another is basket which is when you score a point and in basket ball, scores are counted in twos like 2, 4, 6, 8 and that is equivalent to 1, 2, 3, 4.

In field hockey, I learnt that you only use one side of the racket and that you gently push the ball with a stick, there are two goal posts in which there is a keeper.

In football, it is an invasive game where you can go to the opponents side and that there are many skills in football like dribble, scoring, defending and goalkeeping.

External lessons

In external lessons, including art, french, African studies, music and I.C.T.

In art,m I draw different art pieces like Pharaohs, Benin art, mythical creatures with Greek creatures.

In french, I speak different words in french like types of foods, types of desserts, types of drinks and greetings.

In African studies, I learn the African slave trade, the Oyo empire.

Did you know that millions of African slaves were kidnapped and taken to custody to work for the Americans, or that Oyo empire started with a god called Oranmiyan.

In music, I learn to play the guitar, the notes of the guitar, songs played on the guitar and how to strum the guitar.

In I.C.T, I learn how to code, make games, give commands( also codes) using Kodu, a kid encouraged app that allows you to create games and share with other people.

Out of all the subjects,  try my best to impress the teacher and attempt with all my effort I can use to make my work nice.

By the time it is end of first term, I have already had class party, democracy day, and so much more.

I have gotten a lot of friends who I really trust and they trust me back, like it is a responsibility to keep your word. Even though our teachers sometimes think we are so good, they are happy to be in the class, but other times, we are to noisy not even some other children can stand it.

I have proven myself worthy to be head boy of the class( which I achieved later), I proved myself that any possible teacher can trust me cause I always follow and listen to instructions and that I am kind, diligent and a hard worker.

In my class then, we were almost 20 people but later, people left and left leaving only 16 children left in the class without counting myself. I am glad I made friends because all my old friends had left, even my best friend and closest friend leaving me to find a new best/closest friend.

Though I have friends, some I couldn’t trust till second term. All those students had one thing in common, they teased me which eventually got them into trouble.

A the end of that term, I could describe myself in many different ways including diligent, smart, hard-worker, discipline, dedicated, attempting person and much more.

At the end of the term, I missed school and want to go back to doing class work

End of term

At the end of class party, It was next due the holidays and then second term and I couldn’t wait to get back to learn, type, write and think of creative ways to finish work.

Towards the holiday I hope that I can participate more and improve on what I can, I want to exceed my standards and push myself forward to a better work.

At the beginning of second term I want to improve and show all the improvements I have been making to improve in work in all areas.

Towards the end of second term I would have shown improvement through responsibility for every response I make.

At the end of the holidays, I have practiced everything needed in school, math, literacy, swimming, PE, I.C.T and french speaking.

Second term progress

In second term, I had sports day, swimming Gala and loads more fun.

In sports day, My house loss sadly but the rival house also loss, in sports day, Sycamore won again like last year, in-fact, the last time my house won was in year 3 or two years ago.

In swimming Gala, it is still a mystery of who won because about everyone left before the results were presented out.

Severally my house has been losing and everybody is upset with it, in choir challenge, willow won and acacia came 3rd and in sports day, Acacia came 2nd in the marching parade and the only thing we have won is the spelling b.

Even though that my house lost almost everything including the who wants to be a billionaire science challenge but I still wouldn’t choose any other house over acacia.
