Summary
This book is about a kid named Chet that spends the summer with his uncle Jerry on a place named the “Elm Hills. He has to live with his uncle because his parents are in California for business opportunities and don’t have enough money to take care of Chet.”There he makes 3 very good friends with that love to do pranks on each other. His friends later do a prank to him that there was a shark on the creek and that prank make Shet so scared that he got mad at them. He then goes to the beach on his own this time and is attacked by a shark, but luckily is not hurt. He then goes off to tell a retired captain in the area of what had happened. The captain later goes off to find the shark while Chet was going to the beach to warn everybody.
There he finds his friends and tells them to get out of the water because it was dangerous. They thought it was another prank but then they saw a gray fin going through the water and that was when they knew it was real. They all got out of the water except for one. Chet made the decision to save his friend and risk his life, so he jumped and pulled his friend to shore. The next second he saw his leg it was covered in blood. The shark had bitten his leg but luckily the captain was in the area and shot the shark.

This is important because it was his encounter with the shark that almost kills him.
