Professor Foldini has a magic shop
It’s next to a tree that has owls on top
What town is it in? I really can’t say
It’s a well-kept secret and so it will stay.
2
And yet a lot of children come by
Professor Foldini has many grandchildren, that’s why
The grandchildren have friends, yes, quite a few
And the professor herself has many students, too.
4
Every Tuesday, all year round,
The same small visitor comes around.
Youngest granddaughter Tamar, so sweet,
Always asks her Grandma for a treat.
A sugar fairy in pink,
An ice-skating rink,
An alien puppet that glows,
Hot and cold snow,
A pretty hair bow,
Some strange toy, or a rose
6
One Tuesday, Foldini had no gift standing by
Little Tamar began to cry
A book from the shelf suddenly fell to the floor
And opened to a picture on all of page four
In the picture on the page that opened up
Was a sweet, adorable little pup
And a magic spell that said, “start here”
Foldini read it loud and clear:
8
Dear sorcerers and sorceresses, aim for perfection
For this special magic, carefully follow the directions:
Fold the page, follow the design,
Always fold along the line.
Fold it precisely,
Press it down nicely
10
Match number to number, color to color, and before your eyes
Out of the paper an animal will arise.

(If you, girls and boys, want to make magic, too
Get the doggie out of the packet – she’s waiting for you.)
And Professor Foldini began:
Mighty magic, just begun,
One matches up to one
The page into a triangle we’ll fold
A perfect triangle, sharp and bold
The dog needs ears. What should we do?
Put together two and two
Now we’ll match up green with green
Pressed close, with nothing in between
Three goes with three
That’s how it should be
Turn it over, just as planned,
And there’s an animal in your hand.
14
Mighty magic, heather and feather,
Orange and orange come together
Four and four will then match up
The two ends – and here’s a pup!
There, between Foldini’s hands,
A barking little doggie stands
Who could believe it? What a sight!
She’s wagging her tail left and right
“The dog’s name is Ori,” Foldini declared,
“after my best friend at school, for all that we shared.”
Ori then asked, “Why don’t I have a friend?”
So Foldini did the magic again…
(If you, boys and girls, want to make magic, too
Take out the cat who’s waiting for you.)

Mighty magic, just begun,
One matches up to one
The page into a triangle we’ll fold
A perfect triangle, sharp and bold
The cat needs ears, what should we do?
Put together two and two
Yellow and yellow make a pair
Match them up, we’re halfway there.
18
Three, of course, goes with three
That is how it’s meant to be
After three, we move ahead,
Now it’s time to form the head
Mighty magic, heather and feather,
Red and red now come together
Four and four, well look at that!
The two ends, and here’s a cat!
He needs a name – what can we suggest?
He’ll choose the name that suits him best
Alpha, Beta, Gamma, how’s that?
Or Alfie, Betty, “Gami!” cried the cat
20
Meanwhile, in the book they’d put aside,
The pages started turning with speed
“Our world is in danger!”, Ori cried,
“All our friends are in need,
We must hurry to help them,
And be cautious, indeed!”
22
“Your world?”, asked little Tamar, “What’s that?”
“It’s a world made of paper,” said Gami the cat,
“In order to help, we need a warrior or a prince.”
“I’m not a warrior,” said Tamar with a wince
(Maybe in a year or two or three,
She thought, I’ll grow up and then I might be…)
24
Gami jumped up, “I know! Here’s the story:
We’ll be your magic spell.”
“Yes, if you hold onto me,” said Ori,
“You’ll get my courage and my great sense of smell.”
“And from me,” said Gami, “agility and speed and three extra lives, too.
As you know, we cats have nine, so I can spare a few.”
Tamar took a deep breath and pulled her socks up to her knees
And then she said, “I’m ready. Let’s be on our way now, please.”
Foldini saw how determined they were
And these words of advice they heard from her:
“Remember the folding rules to heed
They’ll help you in your time of need.”
26
Tamar turned the page in the book
And the paper world surrounded her wherever she looked.
And there to greet her: a paper tiger, a puppy, a fox, and a sheep,
“It’s good that you came, let’s set out on our journey, this is no time to sleep!”
Tamar asked, “A journey? Why? To where?”
And if you also want to know what happened there,
By all means, come along,
Wait for the next chapter, it won’t be long!
