The Letter Fairies called us in for a meeting.
English, they said, is unique and appealing.

But the load is immense. People talk all day long!
No one thinks about us; you go on and on.

We need a vacation, just to relax.
To sit on the beach with no strings attached.

So we’re leaving tomorrow, at the first crack of dawn.
Let’s see how you manage when the fairies are gone.

The people replied with a gasp and a pause:
The fairies are leaving, the mayhem they’ve caused!

Oh no, look around! The letters are scattered.
Can anyone help us get them all gathered?

Maybe, they thought, we’ll call it a day.
We don’t think we’ll manage with the fairies away!

Hey there, said one, don’t be quick to despair.
Secret help is around, you’re just not aware.

The Word Elves are here, and they’re ever so busy.
They’re quite hard to find. It may not be easy.

This boy wants to read. He’s sitting there, look!
His hands are too little for such a big book.

The Letter Fairies are gone. They giggled away.
The Word Elves will help us. They are here to stay.

They’ll teach us our letters, until the last one,
While the fairies enjoy their day in the sun.

So let’s get to it!
