space shuttle columbia was the first space-rated orbited in NASA’s space shuttle fleet.
Over 22 years of service it completed 27 missions before disintegrating during re-entry near the end of it’s 28th mission, STS-107 on February 1 2003, resulting in the death of all seven crew members, one of them was Ilan Ramon.
Ilan Ramon was a colonel (aluf mishne) and a fighter pilot in the Israeli Air Force. He was chosen to be a part of the crew of mission STS-107 in 1997.
In February 1st 2003, the space shuttle came back to earth from it’s mission in space after 15 days, 22 hours, 20 min and 32 sec. when it reached the atmosphere it caught on fire and exploded.
