Chapter 1
Background
During the cold war (between Russia and U.S.A) on April 12 1961, a russian cosmonaut, Yuri Gagarin, was the first man to exit Earth’s atmosphere in the spacecraft Vostok1.
On May 1961, in respones to the Russian success, the U.S president John F. Kennedy declared that he believed that the U.S nation should achieve the goal of landing a man on the moon and returning him to earth safely.
Chapter 2
Meet The Characters:
The Astronauts
Michael Collins
Michael Collins was born in October 31, 1930, in Rome, Italy. Collins was a Major General in the US Force.
During his NASA career, Collins completed two space flights,and was 266 hours in space – 1 hour and 27 minutes of this was spacewalking.
Buzz Aldrin
Buzz Aldrin was born in January 20 1930, New Jersey. Aldrin was a pilot and flew in the Korian War.
In 1963, he was chosen by NASA for their next mission.

Neil Amstrong
Neil Armstrong was born on August 5 1930, Ohio.
Armstrong joined NASA in 1955 and served their for 17 years.
In this period of time, he became the first man walking on the moon.
CHAPTER 3
THE STORY
on July 20, 1969, for the first time ever, people have landed, and walked on the moon.
On July 16 1969, 8 years after Kennedy speech,
Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins launched from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida in order to make history, and become the fisrt humans to land on the moon.
