We were looking for tall and huge trees and only the third one was big enough to match the one on the map. It was a giant tree as big as a castle tower. But what impressed my companions wasn’t the extraordinary size of the tree but the fact that a treasure was buried somewhere around the shadow. The thought of the money was enough to forget the fear and they were looking around excitedly, moving faster and faster toward the fortune.

Silver grunted on his crutch; his nostrils quivered; he cursed like a madman when the flies settled on his face. He looked at me with a furious look; he pulled at the line harshly, pulling me toward him and, sometimes, he would glance at me with a deadly look. He didn’t bother to hide his thoughts; and I could perfectly read them. While the gold came closer, everything had been forgotten; his promise and the doctor’s warning were both things from the past; I could not doubt that he hoped to seize upon the treasure and cut every honest throat about the island, and sail away as he had at first intended, laden with crimes and riches.

It was difficult for me to follow the rapid pace of the treasure-hunters. Silver pulled at the line harshly and threw one of his deadly look to me. I was haunted by the thought of this tragedy where the buccaneer, with his own hands, killed six accomplices. This grove, that was so peaceful, must then have rung with cries, I thought; and even with the thought I could believe I heard it ringing.

“Huzza mates, all together!” screamed Merry; and they ran.

And suddenly, we saw them stop. A shout was being heard. Silver quickened his pace, he was moving furiously with his crutch; and right after, we came to a sudden stop.

Right below our eyes was a great excavation, an old one, we could see the sides that had fallen in, the grass that grew one the bottom. In this were a pick broken in two and several boards. On one of these boards, I saw, written with iron, the name : “walrus”, the name of Flint’s ship.

All was clear to probation.

Long John Silver was very furious and he destroyed the chest’s fragments and threw them in the sea. Jim who was always tied to the rope was struggling to be free. Silver, after his moment of madness, came back to himself and he realized the Jim’s suffering and released him.

On his return trip to Shark Island, Long John Silver swore to find the pirate who stole his treasure and to kill him in retaliation.

In inn Long John Silver and Jim was drinking when they heard a pirate’s group talking about some Salvador Satanas who found the mythical Flint’s treasure. There listined this group and discovered that this Salvador Satanas was with his big crew around Caledor Island. His madness woke up and Jim saw the Long John Silver’s face grew dark. His jawbone  contracted, he got a dirty look and his fists tightened. A shiver ran the back of Jim. Long John Silver rose and said coldly to Jim to move to his ship.

After a long travel they finally landed on Caledor Island. They walked through the jungle with his crew. At the bottom of a hill, they faced to the Salvador Satanas’ crew. Salvador asked to Long John Silver what they wanted and this last answered that he wanted to kill him and get back his treasure. Salvador took off his two guns and pointed Long John Silver and Jim and they pointed Salvador Satanas too.

“Huzza mates, all together!” shouted Merry; and they broke into a run.

And suddenly, not ten yards further, we saw them stop. A low cry arose. Silver doubled his pace, digging away with the foot of his crutch like one possessed; and the next moment he and I had come also to a death halt.

Before us was a great excavation, not very recent, for the sides had fallen in and grass had a sprouted on the bottom. In this were the shaft of a pick, broken in two and the balls boards of several packing cases strew around. On one of these boards, I saw, branded with iron, the name: “walrus”- the name of Flint’s ship.

All was clear to probation.
