Zack Weisfeld, head of Microsoft for startups (worldwide) started his talk by lauding the Israeli Hi-tech ecosystem.

Some think that it’s harder to raise money here than in Silicon valley, but Zack provided glowing stats. Who am I to argue?

He went on to discuss the differences in culture in innovation. I agree that as far as startups are concerned, we have a built-in lean approach, we are quick movers and pivoters, we are relatively frank to one another, our readiness to help one another is legendary. And we do try to build relationships that have an element of real friendship of the long lasting kind.

On the other hand, I don’t feel that Israeli corporates move quickly or are innovation-driven. But who am I to argue?

Zack has succeeded where others have failed. He has created successful accelerators, within a slow corporate system, which allows the startups to maintain their culture. And his advice is sage.

Now all we need to do is to get more corporations to support startups without choking them. And to learn to learn to adapt to and adopt new technologies. And to remember that if your company doesn’t come out with the next new thing, someone else will.
