As World War I ended, the American economy seen it’s biggest growth. The economy doubled in 1920 until 1929. This was all possible due to the demand of consumer goods, the growth of cities, and the defining of a new society.
It was also a time of women voting. The Nineteenth Amendment was added to the Constitution in 1919, but was official in 1920. This was the first year women had the right to vote. This was the first year women truly had a voice in American politics.
While consumers were wanting goods, this created a boost in the economy. Many had extra money they wanted to spend, and what better way than to spend it on new technology and wants. One thing many Americans began to buy were radios. Radios were used to be connected with the news and it was also a form on entertainment. Americans also began to buy new vehicles, such as the Ford Model T.
During this time, it was a time of a new music era: Jazz. Jazz was one of the most popular music genres of that time. This form of jazz was upbeat and lively. But, in order to have a fun upbeat tune, you need to dance! The Charleston was a very popular dance among the American populous. Even though this time was lively and upbeat, there were also dark times as well that defined American history.
