Russian Literature is our invaluable property. It has contributed to the development of the world culture. Many Russian novels written by Russian writers have influenced the world view. The greatest novels are translated in different foreign languages and regarded people from other countries.
Alexander Pushkin (06.06.1799–10.02.1837)
Alexander Pushkin is a Russian poet. He was born in 1799. Many people regard him as the founder of Russian literary language. He was an emotional and very brave person. He is known to fight in 29 duels. Unfortunately, the last one brought him death. Pushkin`s famous literary works, such as “Eugene Onegin”, “Boris Godunov” and his poems are translated in English, German, French, Spanish, Chinese etc

Leo Tolstoy (09.09.1828 — 20.11.1910)
Leo Tolstoy is a well-known Russian writer. He was born in 1828 at the family estate of Yasnaya Polyana. He was an earl, but he wasn`t interested in high life. Tolstoy looked like a simple farmer. He had been keeping a diary all his life. The diary inspired him to write novels. So Tolstoy has written many famous books, such as “War and Peace” and “Anna Karenina”, which are commonly regarded as among the finest novels ever written.

Fyodor Dostoevsky (11.11.1821 — 9.02.1881)
Fyodor Dostoevsky is another Russian writer. He was born in 1821. His home atmosphere influenced his works in the future. His books are about the difficulties of life of ordinary people. Dostoevsky became a writer, after he left the University of Military Engineering. By the way, he has wrote about poor student`s life.
Fyodor Dostoevsky has written a lot of amazing novels, which are excellent and socially useful, such as “Crime and Punishment”. His books are translated in English, German, Japanese, French and even Hebrew. So Dostoevsky is regarded as one of the best psychological novelists in the world.

Anton Chekhov (29.01.1860 – 15.07.1904)
Anton Chekhov was born in 1860. He is a famous Russian short story writer and playwright. As M. Bulgakov, he had been practicing as a medical doctor all his life. He had many pen names, such as “Doctor without patients”, “Patient without spleen” and etc. A.Chekhov is also considered to be one of the greatest writers of short stories in the world. His best short stories such as “Kashtanka”, “Three Sisters”, “The Cherry Orchard” are held in high esteem by other writers and critics from all the world.

Mikhail Bulgakov (1891 – 1940)
Mikhail Bulgakov was born in 1891 in Kiev. Bulgakov had studied medicine before he became a write. His job influenced his works, for example «A Young Doctor`s Notebook» is a real story about a young doctor arrives in a small Russian village around the time of the Russian Revolution (1917-1922). Many novels written by Bulgakov are staged in theaters around the world. “The Master and Margarita” is Bulgakov`s best novel, which is well-known around the world. By the way, the author had been writing this novel for 12 years. The mysterious novel tells a story about the devil`s visit to the Soviet Union in 1930s.
