~Witness~

Even if I’m working on human evolution, I’ve always been against this kind of inhuman experience. Everyone thought about it as a huge progress for science, and a revolutionary way to link humans and orcs: two worlds which never truly understood each other. The orcs were rejected because of their physical differences and violent attitude, and humans learned to avoid their contact.

To break this wall, a group of scientists tried to fuse a human body and soul with an orc specimen. In that purpose, she was chosen as the perfect guinea pig: a young woman with a life full of happiness and a pure soul, who suddenly got involved in a terrible accident that was going to kill her. Of course, this disaster was a coincidence…

At this moment, I decided to leave the project. But strangely, I couldn’t help myself to be fascinated as a scientist and horrified as a human being.

How could this end well…?

~Escaping~

So much light… Who are all these vague faces around me? They are moving their lips as if they were talking… about me? Orcs? I can’t understand very well… Scared. I’m scared. But why am I here? My body. I can’t feel it anymore. My eyelids are heavier than ever…

What’s going to happen to me?

Feeling better now. The aggressive light turned softer. I feel so comfortable in my bed…

What time is it? Didn’t I have a meeting today? Hurry hurry! Just a bit of clothing and I opened my door

Argh! I can’t reach the door! It seems so far away… What’s this sound of chain? Is that a chain around my ankle? Wait a minute… This body is not mine! And I’m not in my bedroom! The window, the window, I need some air… and some blood…

I couldn’t remember well what happened after. I panicked and ran away far from this nightmare where I wasn’t myself anymore. As I tried to escape, the chain broke, I realised later that it was because of my strength. My freedom didn’t last long, some people were running after me, screaming with scary weapons in their hands.

After 10 long minutes of running in the streets of London, I succeeded to lose them.

I took a break for a few seconds and noticed an orc right in front of me, staring at me. He looked so pitiful with his recomposed body, as a puzzle we would have destroyed and remade again. His skin was dark and covered in blood stains. His eyes were lifeless and definitely hiding something terrible.

Then I noticed he wasn’t like the other orcs, not attacking me. Strangely, I felt close to him and slowly understood. His eyes, skin and body were mine…

I didn’t have the time to think that someone grabbed my arm and screamed.

And it happened. My hand moved itself, as a simple reflex. It ripped through his organs. I didn’t even regret it and even felt better after this. All this blood was gorgeous, and I wanted it all for me. Just for me. Arm after arm, leg after leg, I dismembered this tiny fragile doll as I discovered my deep nature.

~Researching~

It’s been three days since a specimen escaped from the laboratory. They still haven’t found it and curiously the project about the fusion between a human and an orc stopped at the same time. I’m sure it’s not a coincidence, the woman is linked with this disappearance. Did the experience fail? I should become informed about it.

I’m convinced now: the scientist’s report about her physical appearance matches perfectly with the “monster”’s description in The London Gazette. Same scars, same skin, same terrifying look. She’s on the run in the city of London, moreover she’s out of control. Each person who tried to capture her is ripped open and dismembered. It’s like her signature. The town is upside down with all those news. On top of all this mess, she is defended by the media and inhabitants in all the country. They keep saying that it’s not her fault: she is manipulated by her perverted mind, which was born from her operation . This abomination was done against her will, and the scientists viewed by everyone as criminals must now repair their mistakes. I personally think they can’t do it. They don’t have any of my experience about human evolution. It is my duty to save her, so she can live normally like before.

I made my own researches, and finally located her. Her crimes permitted me to follow her way through the entire capital. She moved away from London’s city centre, and took refuge in an old abbey, surrounded by nature: Westminster abbey. It was the only place left I didn’t checked in London. How could I approach her without being killed? I could call her human side, or at least the rest of it… I will talk to her about her family and past, call her by her first name… I’ll see and pray.

I can’t even believe it! She finally accepted my modest help. I could clearly see her humanity glowing in her eyes. I decided to stop there for the moment and let her rest. It’s useless to go too fast, let’s take our time. I promised her we will meet again. Whatever happens, I’ll give the best of myself for her.

There is a huge progress, every time we meet at the abbey she seems nearer to the human race. She even swore her victims weren’t humans any more.

Tomorrow will be the final phase of my cure, just to check if she is ready to integrate our society again.

~Prayer~

He told me I would be cured today. How stupid. And naive. A monster stays a monster. However he was a pretty good entertainment. And a juicy piece of flesh. It was funny to discover in his eyes all this useless hope. Seeing it disappear was the most satisfying feeling I ever felt. A few seconds before, he realised that he failed and it was beautiful to contemplate this mountain of frustration. His arm weakly raised to my face, as a last call to my non-existent empathy. It fell loudly on the ground, with a sinister echo that hit the abbey’s walls. I softly whispered to his ears: “I swear I won’t stop until I scratch each and every one of you.”

He tried. He failed. He ended like all the others.

A bloody night under God’s stare.
