G. Paul would get a bus to house’s Lennon and he’d have to change at Penny Lane, or the same John to him , so we often hung out at that terminus, like a roundabout.
H. Penny Lane is believed to be named after James Penny, an 18th-century slave trader.
I. Penny Lane was kind of nostalgic.
J. The song’s title is derived from the name of a street near Lennon’s childhood home for his first five years (9 Newcastle Road, just off Church Road), in the band’s hometown, Liverpool, England.
K. Today the street is an important landmark, sought out by many Beatles fans touring Liverpool.

LETTURA – READING

5. THE FABULOUSES FOUR
The Beatles also called the “Fab Four” were an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960, and one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed acts in the history of popular music.

Rooted in skiffle and celebrated by some as the fathers of 1950s rock and roll, the group later worked with many styles, often incorporating classical and other elements in innovative ways. Their enormous popularity first emerged as “Beatlemania”, and as their songs became more sophisticated by the late 1960s, many fans and cultural observers thought they were the poster boys for the sociocultural revolution.
Initially a five –piece lineup they built their reputation playing clubs in Liverpool and Hamburg over a three – year period.
Moulded into a professional act by manager Brian Epstein, their musical potential was enhanced by the creativity of producer George Martin.
They gained popularity in the United Kingdom after their first single, “Love me do” became a hit in 1962, and the “Beatlemania” grew in Britain over the following year.

By early 1964 they had become international stars, leading the “British Invasion” of the United States pop market.
The band toured around the world until August 1966, when they performed their final commercial concert. During this time they produced what many critics consider to be some of their finest material. After their break – up in 1970, the ex – Beatles each found success in individual musical careers.

Lennon was murdered in 1980, and Harrison died of cancer in 2001. McCartney and Starr remain active.

Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds
Picture yourself in a boat on a river
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green
Towering over your head
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes
And she’s gone

Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Aaaaahhhhh…

Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers
That grow so incredibly high

Newspaper taxis appear on the shore
Waiting to take you away
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds
And you’re gone

Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Aaaaahhhhh…

Picture yourself on a train in a station
With Plasticine porters with looking-glass ties
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile
The girl with kaleidoscope eyes

Lucy in the sky with diamonds. Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Aaaaahhhhh…
Lucy in the sky with diamonds. Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Aaaaahhhhh…

Translation
Lucy Nel Cielo Con I Diamanti

Qualcuno ti chiama, tu rispondi abbastanza lentamente

Dove persone come cavalli a dondolo

The Beatles
Look for the meaning
1. The Beatles were one of the most influential music groups of the rock era and many consider them the best musical group on Earth. Initially they affected the post – war baby boom generation of Britain and the U. S. during the 1960s, and later the rest of the world. Certainly they were the most successful group, with global sales exceeding 1.1 billion records.
2. While they were originally famous for light – weight pop music (and the extreme hysterical reaction they received from young women), their later works achieved a combination of popular and critical acclaim perhaps unequaled in the 20th century.
3. Eventually, they became more than recording artists, branching out into film and – particularly in the case of John Lennon – political activism. They achieved an iconic status beyond mere celebrity, with far reaching effects difficult to exaggerate.
4. The members of the group were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, all from Liverpool, England.
5. Beatlemania began in the UK and exploded following the appearance of the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show in the United States, on February 9, 1964. The pop – music band became a worldwide phenomenon with worshipful fans, hysterical adulation, and denunciations by culture commentators.
6. Some of this was confusion over the sources of their music (a similar confusion was evinced in 1956 over Elvis Presly), and some of it was simply an incredulous reaction to the lenght of their hair.

With a little help from my friends

Ringo
What would you think if I sang out of tune?
Would you stand up and walk out on me?

Lend me your ears and I’ll sing you a song.
And I’ll try not to sing out of key.

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends.
mm, I get high with a little help from my friends.
mm, Gonna try with a little help from my friends.

Ringo
What do I do when my love is away?
John, Paul, George
Does it worry you to be alone?

Ringo
How do I feel by the end of the day?
John, Paul, George
Are you sad because you’re on your own?

Ringo
No, I get by with a little help from my friends.
mm, Get high with a little help from my friends,
mm, Gonna try with a little help from my friends.

John, Paul, George
Do you need anybody?
Ringo
I need somebody to love.

John, Paul, George
Could it be anybody?
Ringo
I want somebody to love.
John, Paul, George
Would you believe in a love at first sight?
Ringo
Yes, I’m certain that it happens all the time.
John, Paul, George
What do you see when you turn out the light?
Ringo
I can’t tell you, but I know it’s mine.

Oh I get by with a little help from my friends.
mm, Get high with a little help from my friends.
mm, (I’m) gonna try with a little help from my friends.

John, Paul, George: Do you need anybody.
Ringo: I just need someone to love.
John, Paul, George: Could it be anybody?
Ringo: I want somebody to love.

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends.
