I remember sitting in a workshop at Pragati Maidan where Nikita Singh and a few other female authors were having a live session with readers. One of the readers asked them all, “Why do I find confident and successful girls in all of your books as the protagonist? Why can’t it be someone unsuccessful, someone struggling?” This is it. Like a Love Song is a story about the struggle of a girl Maahi, who is doubtful about her career and her choices so far. She belongs to a middle class family where the degrees matter the most. Her parents are a little orthodox who do not believe in love or a career choice that do not guarantee a 9 to 5 job with a handsome salary.

Amidst of all this, she suffers from a heartbreak that leaves her shattered. She drops out of the college and returns home, only to begin working at a café. This is where she finds the true joy in her life. This is where she learns that she loves to bake. With were passionate co-worker Laila, she embarks on a new journey that will define her life ahead.

The romance is there. I’m not denying that and I am happy that Nikita Singh has found a perfect balance between the actual story and the romance in this book. I’m a little unhappy with the narration though. It is a bit slow because the overall story could have been condensed into lesser pages. However, like I said in my review of AFTER  ALL THIS TIME, she has grown tremendously as a writer and I’m quite glad that she has managed to maintain the same with this book as well
