how to teach oral skills

introduction

oral skill is an important skill  to communicate with other people ,

nowadays ; English teachers do not  use the modern strategies to teach oral skills

and even they prepare great lesson plans to teach vocabulary without pay attention to the oral skill because

in teaching a language we as teachers should teach the basic skills equally.

strategy#1-

speak up 

in this strategy teacher’s role is to motivate the students to speak

English language loudly in front of the other students by presenting

his or her own ideas about specific and familiar topic or issue

strategy#2 

Debate class

in this strategy students choose one topic in order to make a discussion on it ,

so at the beginning teacher can give them the chance to choose but then he can the topic

then he divides the class into two lines or groups , for example if the topic is about mixed school some students

will be with (agree) the idea of mixed gender school and others who do not agree and this way the class will change to a stage of  an effective talk.

strategy#3 

role play 

the recent studies show that using role play in teaching any language is the best way for two reasons ,

first that students can learn from their mistakes and they will not forget the word . secondly,

role play expose the students with new vocabulary and the student may listen to the correct pronunciation of each word.

strategy# 4

use of flashcards

this strategy could be more effective in the elementary classes because students

can touch the cards and choose the exact words to describe the picture orally

then the teacher ask them to choose cards to their classmates to describe them to the other students .
